Ginetta Junior driver Cassey Watson always knew rounds 5 & 6 were going to be tough at Rockingham, and so they proved, but ended up leaving the circuit with high hopes for the rest of the season.
Since the first test day back in February it has been obvious that Cassey’s car has been struggling for straight line speed and despite great effort the problem had proved impossible to find, so the Super Speedway section of Rockingham was always going to show the problem at it’s worst.
Although Cassey looked quick in the damp practice session Saturday morning, qualifying took place in the dry leaving Cassey down in 12th on the time sheets. Race 1 saw Cassey improve slightly to finish 10th.
Saturday night though the team worked tirelessly into the night and eventually found a problem with the car, leaving everybody hopeful that the car would be on the pace.
On the first lap of Race 2 Cassey stormed upto 5th place and looked set for a great result before one of her Tockwith Motorsport teammates unfortunately hit her rear wheel resulting in damage to the rear suspension forcing Cassey to limp the car home for another 10th place finish.
Cassey joked, “I think here I have just raced two of my four dropped rounds,” then went onto say, “hopefully we have now found the problem, the car felt alot better up the straight, we need to go and test before the next round to make sure but I’m hopeful.”
