Circle Track — 28 May 2008

PENNGROVE, CA (5-25-08) – Sixteen year-old Alissa Geving returned to the likes of Silver Dollar Speedway for two consecutive nights of racing over the Memorial Day weekend. The double header event took place beneath the backdrop of the annual Silver Dollar Fair, an event Geving and the Chicko Motorsports team all look forward and concluded their weekend with a 13th place finish and advancement in the competitive Civil War Sprint Car Series.

After using Saturday’s non-points event to test and tune her new 2008 Pit Stop USA, Matt Cordeiro Enterprises Maxim Sprint Car, Geving’s highlight of the two day weekend was Sunday’s Hoosier Racing Tires Civil War Sprint Car Series event, the fourth segment of a 15-race series that competes at six different California Speedway’s throughout the season.

In qualifying on Sunday, Geving clocked the 11th fastest time out of the 48 drivers in competition with a 12:637 second lap on the quarter-mile track. Much of Geving’s success in qualifying can be attributed to several early season visits to Silver Dollar Speedway to compete in the Friday night weekly series where she familiarized herself with the track, one that has become a favorite for the recipient of the 2007 Motorsports Press Association’s Rising Star Award.

In the third heat race of the evening, Geving kept the capacity filled grandstands on the edge of their seat as she competed in the company of California’s best to finish an impressive second place. Geving started the 10-lap event on the outside of the second row. She quickly charged into the second position at the waving of the green flag. After moving into the bridesmaid position, Geving’s drive to the finish line was far from over as she battled veteran drivers Colby Wiesz of Colfax and defending four time series champion Andy Forsberg of Auburn. Wiesz drove to the inside of Geving to steal the position momentarily, only to have Geving live up to latest knick name, angel in flames, as she fired the Gary Geving powered #3x back into the second position to secure the position and a starting position in the 30-lap feature event.

In the feature event, a wind damaged track surfaced proved challenging for Geving but she remained in the hunt for the entire 30-lap affair in which she started on the outside of the fifth row. Despite damage to the tail of the #3x, Geving finished 14th in the 22-car event and unofficially advanced in the series point standings.

Prior to Sunday’s headline event, Geving and the Chicko Motorsports team debuted their new 2008 Maxim during the non-points event at Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night. In this event a 7th place finish in the heat race placed Geving in the B-feature and once again the young lady took the upper hand when her cards were down. Geving started 12th in the event and worked her way to the sixth position by the four lap mark. It was then that she became involved in multi-car collision on the front stretch that caused damage to the front of her car.

Pulling off track, Geving was assisted by several members of numerous teams who ran to her aid, removing the torn front wing and making the necessary repairs to get her back to the track surface, an effort which displayed great sportsmanship and was truly appreciated by the Chicko Motorsports team. When she returned to the track, she was a woman on a mission and rallied back through the field, reaching the fourth place transfer position by the 10th lap despite the lack of a nose wing and suffering a rear flat tire in the final laps of the race. The finish placed her 20th in the starting line up of the A-feature.

As she advanced through the field, Geving’s evening came to close on the eighth lap when she exited the fourth turn behind Pleasanton driver Brad Furr. Furr spun in front of Geving, who unavoidable collided into Furr, send her to the pit area with damage for the evening.

This Saturday, Alissa Geving returns to her home track of Petaluma Speedway where she maintains the 2008 All Pro Point Series point lead. The team will return to the Civil War Series on June 14 at the half mile Calistoga Speedway on the Napa County Fairgrounds. This event will mark Geving’s second visit of her career to California’s most intimidating dirt track.
