Johanna Long, at age 18, becomes the youngest female driver to compete in a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event. Long, driver of the Billy Ballew Motorsports No. 15 Panhandle/Race For Riley Toyota Tundra, put up a 15th fastest qualifying lap for the July 23rd NCWTS AAA Insurance 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park. This is also her debut in one of NASCAR’s three premier series.
Three female racers will take to the track at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis this weekend in the Camping World Truck Series race, each making their own brand of history. Jennifer Jo Cobb, Michelle Theriault and Johanna Long will all attempt to take the green flag on Friday evening in the AAA Insurance 200.
Jennifer Jo Cobb, the most veteran of the three racers, will have the opportunity to make history in the Truck Series. Cobb is on her way to becoming the highest-ranked female in the point standings in the Truck Series history.
Cobb currently is ranked 17th in the standings, which matches the ranking of Tammy Jo Kirk in the 1997 season. If Cobb finishes well at ORP, she will surpass Kirk’s ranking and make history in the Truck Series.
“I didn’t even know that stat,” Cobb said of her potential history making ranking. “If I do, it’s just an additional honor but I don’t set out with a goal like that.”
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (July 20, 2010) – Michelle Theriault is ready to get back on track in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at O’Reilly Raceway Park for the AAA Insurance 200 presented by J.D. Byrider. This race marks the 2010 debut for the 24-year-old driver of the No. 48 ProGold Lubricants Chevrolet
“This is such a great opportunity for me, ProGold Lubricants and VP Parts Warehouse to get on track and I’m thrilled to be doing it at ORP,” Theriault said. “I like the track because it has a different line and such a great history.”
“After being off track for most of the last year, I couldn’t be happier to have had this opportunity come together,” Theriault said. “Right now we’re really focused on trying to bring on more partners so we can extend our race schedule this season and put together something full time for the 2011 season. We’re really hoping for a solid run this weekend at ORP.”
Known for her breakthrough accomplishments on the race track, Lyn St. James is becoming just as popular and accomplished for the inroads she’s making off the track.
Whether she’s hired to be a motivational speaker or recruiting and developing young female talent through her foundation, St. James is just as busy today as she was when the racing pioneer was turning laps at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Read More
Unlike some other teenagers who have preceded her into NASCAR, Johanna Long seems to be quietly heading toward her series debut.
Long, 18 and a native of Pensacola, Fla., will make her first run in one of NASCAR’s three major touring series on July 23 at O’Reilly Raceway Park. As she prepares for her inaugural Camping World Truck Series outing, it’s worth noting that while Long may be somewhat stealthily making her first foray into NASCAR’s upper tiers, she bears watching.
After all, like others who have moved into NASCAR’s elite ranks, she has been leaving her mark on racing for years.
She’s the girl who took the pole position for the 2009 Snowball Derby that Kyle Busch was also running in and the one now following in Busch’s footsteps in the Billy Ballew Motorsports Camping World Truck Series entry – but don’t point out to her she is following his path. That merely adds to the pressure of the task she faces.

Leilani Münter is a passionate environmentalist — and a rising star in the motorsports world. It may seem like a paradoxical pairing. But in Münter’s mind, that’s a good thing. She believes that the faster she drives, the easier it will be to sell her environmental message to the sport’s 100 million U.S. fans — a group not widely associated with overt ecological concern.
PENNGROVE, CA (6-19-10) – Following several months on the road, Penngrove’s Alissa Geving enjoyed the opportunity to race close to home last Saturday night as a break permitted her to return to the likes of Petaluma Speedway. The venue was the annual United States Auto Club-CRA Wingless Sprint Car night at the 3/8 mile dirt track located on the Sonoma-Marin County Fairgrounds.
Returning from Western Speedweek in the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday afternoon, Geving’s Chicko Motorsports Team went to work to prepare for two nights of wingless racing with the USAC Series. A last minute decision took the team to Watsonville on Friday night to prep for Saturday’s return to Petaluma Speedway in an event that Geving nearly won the previous year.Read More
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (June 29, 2010) – Jennifer Jo Cobb will make her first Nationwide Series start at Daytona International Speedway in this Friday’s Subway Jalapeno 250. Cobb will be piloting the No. 27 Driver Boutique Ford Mustang in NASCAR’s first race featuring the new car.
Cobb’s team will be working together with Baker Curb Racing at each of the four Nationwide Series events with the new car. The two independent teams decided that they would benefit from sharing resources and personnel as they learned the ins and outs of NASCAR’s latest generation racing machine.
At Daytona International Speedway, Cobb has one Camping World Truck Series start and one ARCA Series start, each this season. Her best finish was 17th-place, which came in the ARCA event after starting 42nd.Read More
Last year she drove in the Viking Rally, a rally for zero emission vehicles in Norway. Leilani drove a hydrogen fuel cell Ford Focus and drank the exhaust at the finish line (the only exhaust from a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is water and heat) here is some footage:
ARCA driver and environmental activist Leilani Munter, 34, expects to do at least five more ARCA races this year, pending sponsorhip. She was hoping to be back on the track at Pocono Raceway on June 5th, but sponsorship didn’t materialize. According to Munter, it is looking good that she will return to her Mark Gibson Racing Dodge later this year. She says, “I have good race cars waiting for me, just need some corporate support.”
“Tim Cindric of Penske Racing connected Leilani and Mark Gibson Racing
last year; to see if they could put something together with Munter. They were not able to get sponsorship in time to work together in 2009. After keeping in touch throughout the year, Mark Gibson says, “Leilani was able to secure sponsorship from NextEra Energy for the Daytona test in December andGREENandSAVE for the race in February.” Read More
