The 2012 racing season has finally arrived! I’m happy to announce that I’ll be racing a Grand American Modified in the NASCAR Whelen series for Ron Sutton’s Winners Circle Racing Team (RSWC). It’s an incredibly powerful stock car with  a 383 small block Chevy. It runs on methanol and  cranks out just under 500 horsepower. It’s a beast!  I’ll be running the Allstar Performance #7 car. My colors have changed to white, black, and red. It’s not  going to be easy to keep my beautiful new driver suit  clean! As of now, I’ll be completing about two-thirds of the season. If more funding becomes  available, I’ll add more races. I also intend to spend some time in the midwest this summer  racing a dirt modified with my former crew member, Russell Hunt.

During the past several months I dedicated myself to the “business” side of racing and forged  new relationships. Without these relationships, and the personal interest of some very special people, I wouldn’t be able to pursue my dream. For that, I am most grateful! I look forward  to helping these individuals promote their businesses through my racing and social networking activity this year. Fremont, Ohio (April 17, 2012) - Ali Kern Motorsports announced today that Crown Battery will once again support the young up-and-coming racer this year as she competes on the JEGS/CRA All Star Tour. It marks the fifth consecutive season that the Fremont, Ohio-based Crown Battery has supported Kern with her racing efforts. Crown Battery has been a supporter of Kern as she has climbed the ranks from karting to modifieds and now late models.

The Tequila Patron Toyota Camry Funny Car team took a break from their usual stomping grounds of the drag strip to visit the oval track in Bristol, TN this past weekend for the Food City 500 NASCAR races at Bristol Motor Speedway.

The Tequila Patron NHRA team made the trip down to the land of country music, Funny Car in tow, for a jam-packed ‘NHRA Meets NASCAR’ weekend, and what the team considered an exciting introduction to the NASCAR crowd.

Down in Tennessee, they were greeted with open arms by NASCAR fans and media alike. For Team Patron’s driver, Alexis DeJoria, it was especially exciting as it was her first time ever attending a NASCAR event.(...)

Leilani Munter is a professional race car driver in the ARCA Racing Series. She has also driven on the NASCAR and Indy car development circuits. Racing is not her only interest though, she regularly speaks at events to raise environmental awareness and publishes information on her Carbon-Free Girl website. (Her bachelor’s degree is in ecology and biology.) What follows is an interview with her.

How long have you been vegetarian?

I went vegetarian when I was six years old, when I found out what meat was. I made the next step and gave up dairy products in the last year.

Did you decide to be vegetarian for environmental reasons?

At age six I didn’t understand those types of issues; it was purely because of my love for animals. They were my friends and I wasn’t going to eat my friends. Obviously the environmental benefits of eating a plant based diet is huge. When people ask me what is the number one thing they can do for the planet, I tell them to cut back on their meat consumption.

What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?

I have so many favorites, it’s tough to choose. I just got home from California where there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian places to eat out. I had my favorite potato burrito from Don Carlos Taco Shop in La Jolla. I ate some fantastic raw food at Planet Raw and Rawvolution in Santa Monica. At home we cook all the regular stuff that you find in regular non-vegan cookbooks, but we just use vegan meat and cheese substitutes when the recipe calls for dairy or meat. I make an amazing white wine and mushroom risotto. Eating a plant based diet is easy once you try it.(...)

There are few things that all types of racing have in common, and I think the most important is FANS.  NASCAR  has been said to have the most loyal fans of any venue of racing or sports in general.  I found that out today when I received a package of 175 letters from 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from Cielo Azul Elementary in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.  The kids all hand wrote letters asking me questions about my racing career and what I have done in order to make my dream a reality.  The letters were very touching and I found myself smiling while reading them.  I was reminded that I am living my dream and that I get to do an incredible thing that people would love to do if given the chance, and I get to do it everyday.  Tim Johnson, who is now the Race Director at Elko Speedway, once told me before a very big race at Raceway Park, “to think about all the people across the nation who would love to be sitting where you are sitting right now.  No matter what happens in this race tonight, you have accomplished great things just by being in the seat of this super late model, and you are getting to do what you love to do”.   I remember that little pep talk almost every time I climb behind the wheel of my car, and it has helped me to stay focused and to take the good times along with the bad.   He also would tell me that no matter the outcome of the race tonight, bananas are still be 38 cents a pound at Kwik Trip.  Thanks Tim !(...)

Cassie Gannis has had a competitive drive ever since she was a little girl growing up in Ahwatukee, AZ. She got her start at the age of ten in the Quarter Midget Series, continued to gain experience as a teenager while attending Desert Vista High School and has worked her way up the K&N Series.

Cassie will be in the number 01 Ford in the K&N race Saturday from Phoenix International raceway. It is her goal to continue to improve and make her way up to the Sprint Cup.

Cassie and her team gave us an all-access pass to spend a day with Cassie Gannis Racing.

Winning the award has given Cornett-Ching some added confidence going into 2012, where she will run for the championship in the ARCA Ok Tire Series.  The knowledge that she has learned from the Race 101 school will certainly pay dividends as the team prepares for the upcoming season and seeks additional marketing partners to reach her goals for the new year.

“I am proud to win the Race 101 Marketing Excellence Award because I am being recognized for all the media efforts and publicity we received this year?, says Cornett-Ching.  “Racing isn’t possible without the marketing side of the sport, and that can be easily forgotten.”
