ATLANTA, Ga. – Ashley Force put a new face on Funny Car drag racing Sunday by becoming the first woman to win a national race in a category that once was considered the last bastion of male superiority.
The 25-year-old did so with a flair for the dramatic, beating her father, drag racing icon John Force, in the final round of the 28th annual Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals to deny him his 1,000 winning round in his 500th NHRA tour event.

Nancy Matter Racing regrouped after a transmission gremlin sidelined the team from qualifying at their season opener in Houston two weeks ago. The team spent the necessary hours rebuilding everything to ensure success at their second outing for the Lucas Oil Division 4 racing event in Ennis, Texas this past weekend. Their transmission gremlin was defeated without any real significant reason why, but this IS drag racing, and sometimes there are no definitive answers to specific questions.

Transmission Gremlin Forces DNQ for Matter’s Season Opener

BAYTOWN, Texas – The Top Alcohol Funny Car Team of Nancy Matter had hoped for better results at the 21st Annual running of the O’Reilly Spring Nationals in Baytown this past weekend. The team, armed with a complete new arsenal of parts, was plagued with transmission issues for each pass keeping them from qualifying within the 16-car field.
