David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, in their
first event of the Rally America 2012 season, finished on the podium with 3rd in the super Production
Class and 8th overall at Sno*Drift Rally over the weekend.

This was the first time David had ever competed in the ice and snow. With over 60 cars competing in the
event and a high rate of finishers, it was a very competitive event. The weather made it very difficult all
weekend with below freezing temperatures, ice, and on the last day several inches of snow.

“I am so happy with our results this weekend, especially for our partners AlphaSTAR, Genoa 5, and
MCQ Composites. Our new Subaru was just finished and I drove it for the first time this week” stated
David. “Having never rallied on the ice or snow I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. Turns out you can’t
expect anything because the heavy ice and snow this weekend made the conditions very difficult to plan
for. I know we will be even quicker next year though because we learned a lot of valuable information
that will really help.”

David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, winners
of the 2011 Prescott Rally, have entered the Rally America national championship. With just six events
which begin at the Sno*Drift rally January 27th & 28th, it promises to be an exciting season.

In the off season the team built a brand new 2011 Subaru STI in order to compete for the Super
Production title. The car promises to provide the speed and consistency that the team needs in order to be
highly competitive.

“I am really looking forward to the new car and competing in the Rally America Championship which I
know is a great series” explained David. “The main reason I chose to build a new Subaru is because of
their support of both USA and Canadian rallying. The contingency packages that they have offered in
both the Rally America and Canada Rally Series has been impressive. Since we plan on running both in
the future it just made sense to build a Subaru.”

David has had many years of motorsport experience including a Belgium Rally Championship, 3 WRC
starts for Skoda Octavia Rally team, Toyota Atlantic series, World Championship FIA GT series, FIA
Sportscar Championship series, and many other sports car and rally events worldwide.

I’ve been all over this great big world of ours, but I’d never been to Florida before this past weekend.   What fun it was to meet all the Female Racing News ladies down in Orlando at the Performance Racing Industry trade show.  I talked up Gazelles to anyone who would listen and also talked to some fire suit manufacturers about doing some designs of women’s suits.  It would be great to meld my design and patternmaking skills with racing and get a prototype out there.  Women in off roading face a few more logistical challenges then the men do while out in the desert and I have a few ideas to make solve those problems.

I had a TON of time to kill on the 1000 mile drive home on Sunday so I was able to catch up (via my hands free adapter, of course) with Michele.  She had some wonderful news!  Artist Christopher Swift has joined Team Courage Gazelles for the design of the 2012 Team Courage Gazelles Rallye Aicha des Gazelles truck. Although you may not recognize his name, Christopher’s artwork has impacted the lives of almost every man, woman, and child. Some of his famous works include Avatar, Ironman, Alice in Wonderland, A.I., Jurassic Park, and Terminator, not to mention cult classics Interview with a Vampire, Friday the 13^th and Child’s Play.(...)

Come see Erika Detota and her “I Love Boobies” Rally winning race car on Friday November 18 at Spins Bowl located at Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco. The brand new bowling ally will host “Strikes Against Cancer Bowl-A-Thon” with fundraising to benefit Support Connection a local women’s cancer organization.

The event starts at 8:00pm with many festivities provided by GPNY. “It will be really fun to go bowling while raising money for such a great organization” says Detota about the fundraiser. Erika is sponsored by GPNY along side Keep-A-Breast.org, a non-profit focused on prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

The last race of the USRC saw many teams struggle with mechanical and equipment
failures this year. The team of Erika Detota and Brian Johnson unfortunately one of
them, suffered a flat tire and a broken axle which subsequently left them unable to
finish the first day of stages. “The new roads were beautiful” says Detota “but the
traditionally run stages in the rally took a beating from the wet fall and were very
rocky” which is where the team suffered their failures. Under super rally rules they
were able to fix their axle and re-entered the race for the last day of racing.

Day 2 was going their way with a top 2 stage time, the team was way ahead of the
competition for the regional race. However with their inability to finish the first day
they were sadly unable to hold onto any chances of keeping the USRC 2 wheel drive
title that Detota won in 2010 with then co-driver Jason Smith. For 2011, Detota
received 3rd place in the championship with 1st going back to previous winners
Mike Reilly and Josh Bethian respectively.(...)

Fresh off their recent win at Prescott Rally, David Sterckx and Karen Jankowski of Sterckx Rally
Sport Team have entered the 8th annual Mt Hood rally October 22nd in Hood River, Oregon.
Mt Hood rally is part of the 2011 Pacific NorthWest Rally Championship and the 2012 Rally
America Northwest Region Championship.

This will be the third event together for the team and the first time either had competed at this
event. As the team continues to build momentum and experience an event like Mt Hood rally
will be instrumental.

“I am so proud of what we have been able to accomplish in a short amount of time and know
that there is so much more to come. The more experience here in the USA we can get the better
prepared we will be for the 2012 season” stated Jankowski.

The car has been updated since there win, with the clutch that was giving them issues the last
two events being completely replaced.(...)

In March of 2012 I will take a break from racing  the deserts of California, Nevada, and Mexico  with my race team,  Hall Ass Racing.  I’ve partnered with Michele Martineau of Team Courage Racing and together we are Team Courage Gazelles.  We will be tackling the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles in Morocco.

The Rallye Aicha des Gazelles is recognized around the globe as one of the most intense off road competitions…and all the participants are female.  We will spend 9 days in the Moroccan desert navigating to predefined check points using only a compass and maps from the 1950s.   No GPS, no phones, no chase crews.  This rallye is won by traveling the shortest distance between check points, not by making the fastest time.  Only 5 other U.S. women have attempted this grueling adventure since its organization in 1990, and Michele and I will be spending the next 5 months preparing for the adventure of our lives.

In her first season of competition in Performance Rallying, Erika went from the last car on the road to becoming the first woman to win a United States Rally Championship as a driver. This accomplishment has made Erika an interesting driver to watch in a male dominated sport.(...)
