David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, in their third event of the Rally America 2012 season, won the Super Production class at Oregon Trail Rally and finished 6th overall.

Since this is their second SP podium of the season it mean the SP class championship is tightening up with only three points separating 1st through the 3rd place that they are now in.

“I am so happy with our results this weekend, especially for new sponsor French Kiss who just joined us” stated David. “To be able to celebrate this win with them and the rest of our sponsors AlphaSTAR, Genoa 5 and MCQ Composites is such a great feeling. Karen and I are really hitting our stride together and now we have worked out the teething issues with our new Subaru I have no doubt we are the team to beat”.(...)

Erika Detota gets support before the championship opener New York, NY, March 28th, 2011: 2010 United States Rally Champion, Erika Detota gets official support for the coming season of racing. Adding to the Keep A Breast Foundation’s resounding message, “I Heart Boobies,” on her Subaru Impreza, there will be some new names of support.

As a grassroots competitor, it is more than fitting for a local auto repair shop, Tony’s Mufflers, in Wallington NJ, to maintain and work on Erika’s race car. Starting with new custom headers, which were “much needed,” Detota said this is just the beginning of the prep help the garage will be doing on the vehicle before the next rally. “I’m so glad to have such a skilled team at Tony’s Mufflers supporting me. Brecon rally driver, Sara Williams, had double reason to celebrate at the weekend, picking up a top award and finishing the Mid Wales Stages 12^th overall in her KLARIUS Group backed Subaru Impreza.

Her weekend started when she was invited down to Silverstone Race Circuit, home of the British Grand Prix, to pick up the Louise Aitken-Walker Award for top placed rally driver in the British Womens Racing Driver Club (BWRDC). Not only did she pick up the fantastic award, but she was also presented it by her hero, Louise Aitken-Walker.

“Louise is a really hero of mine. She’s an inspiration to my rally driving and proof of what can be achieved by a woman at the top level of a very male dominated sport.” said Sara.

The award is the latest in a string of high-profile accolades for the Brecon 22 year old. In 2010 she picked up the 2300 Motor Club’s John Easson Award, which provides over £4,000 to help an upcoming driver gain experience and progress their career.

It wasn’t all mingling with race and rally stars for Sara, as she had to compete herself on the Rally Marketing Mid Wales Stages, which took in Hafren, Myherin and the Sweet Lamb Complex on the Sunday morning.(...)

The snow and ice of the Wyedean Rally weren’t the ideal start to the season for Brecon’s young female rally driver, Sara Williams. A cautious event saw Sara finish 8^th in class on the difficult event in her KLARIUS Group backed Subaru Impreza GpN12b.

With the slippery conditions still fresh in her mind, Sara headed to Sweded to hone her driving skills on the frozen lakes with professional tutor, Martin Snell at Extreme Rally. With temperatures as low as -20^c the lake stays frozen throughout the winter months and provides an ideal location to test a drivers speed and skill.

“It was completely different to the conditions on the Wyedean Rally. Driving on the ice, in Sweden, you’ve got studded tyres which give you a similar amount of grip to driving on gravel but on the Wyedean we were driving on gravel tyres on a polished ice surface – this is because studded tyres are illegal to use in the UK.

“It was great preparation for this weekends Mid Wales Stages. We got to drive a Subaru Impreza, which was very similar to mine, plus also try out a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo. I felt my speed and car control improve and I can’t wait to get out in to the Hafren and Myherin stages on the Mid Wales, the same stages we competed on back in November on Wales Rally GB.”(...)

With snow and ice lingering in the Forest of Dean, crews were faced with some of the most demanding conditions in British rallying on the opening round of the Pirelli Welsh National Rally Championship, the Team GMF Wyedean Forest Rally.

Sara Williams, fresh from a confidence boosting shakedown and partnered by new co-driver Andrew Sankey, took her KLARIUS Group backed Subaru Impreza N12b to the Chepstow based event with high hopes of starting her Welsh National Rally Championship campaign with a bang but tricky conditions meant a cautious and measured approach was needed.

A bold tyre choice was made before the first stage to run a winter Pirelli road tyre on the polished ice/gravel surface. With traction a big issue for all crews it was simply a case of keeping the car pointing in the right direction and ensuring they got to the end of the event.(...)

David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, in their
first event of the Rally America 2012 season, finished on the podium with 3rd in the super Production
Class and 8th overall at Sno*Drift Rally over the weekend.

This was the first time David had ever competed in the ice and snow. With over 60 cars competing in the
event and a high rate of finishers, it was a very competitive event. The weather made it very difficult all
weekend with below freezing temperatures, ice, and on the last day several inches of snow.

“I am so happy with our results this weekend, especially for our partners AlphaSTAR, Genoa 5, and
MCQ Composites. Our new Subaru was just finished and I drove it for the first time this week” stated
David. “Having never rallied on the ice or snow I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. Turns out you can’t
expect anything because the heavy ice and snow this weekend made the conditions very difficult to plan
for. I know we will be even quicker next year though because we learned a lot of valuable information
that will really help.”

David Sterckx (Belgium) and Karen Jankowski (California) of David Sterckx Rally Sport Team, winners
of the 2011 Prescott Rally, have entered the Rally America national championship. With just six events
which begin at the Sno*Drift rally January 27th & 28th, it promises to be an exciting season.

In the off season the team built a brand new 2011 Subaru STI in order to compete for the Super
Production title. The car promises to provide the speed and consistency that the team needs in order to be
highly competitive.

“I am really looking forward to the new car and competing in the Rally America Championship which I
know is a great series” explained David. “The main reason I chose to build a new Subaru is because of
their support of both USA and Canadian rallying. The contingency packages that they have offered in
both the Rally America and Canada Rally Series has been impressive. Since we plan on running both in
the future it just made sense to build a Subaru.”

David has had many years of motorsport experience including a Belgium Rally Championship, 3 WRC
starts for Skoda Octavia Rally team, Toyota Atlantic series, World Championship FIA GT series, FIA
Sportscar Championship series, and many other sports car and rally events worldwide.

I’ve been all over this great big world of ours, but I’d never been to Florida before this past weekend.   What fun it was to meet all the Female Racing News ladies down in Orlando at the Performance Racing Industry trade show.  I talked up Gazelles to anyone who would listen and also talked to some fire suit manufacturers about doing some designs of women’s suits.  It would be great to meld my design and patternmaking skills with racing and get a prototype out there.  Women in off roading face a few more logistical challenges then the men do while out in the desert and I have a few ideas to make solve those problems.

I had a TON of time to kill on the 1000 mile drive home on Sunday so I was able to catch up (via my hands free adapter, of course) with Michele.  She had some wonderful news!  Artist Christopher Swift has joined Team Courage Gazelles for the design of the 2012 Team Courage Gazelles Rallye Aicha des Gazelles truck. Although you may not recognize his name, Christopher’s artwork has impacted the lives of almost every man, woman, and child. Some of his famous works include Avatar, Ironman, Alice in Wonderland, A.I., Jurassic Park, and Terminator, not to mention cult classics Interview with a Vampire, Friday the 13^th and Child’s Play.(...)

Come see Erika Detota and her “I Love Boobies” Rally winning race car on Friday November 18 at Spins Bowl located at Grand Prix New York in Mount Kisco. The brand new bowling ally will host “Strikes Against Cancer Bowl-A-Thon” with fundraising to benefit Support Connection a local women’s cancer organization.

The event starts at 8:00pm with many festivities provided by GPNY. “It will be really fun to go bowling while raising money for such a great organization” says Detota about the fundraiser. Erika is sponsored by GPNY along side Keep-A-Breast.org, a non-profit focused on prevention and early detection of breast cancer.
