RACE REPORT ROTEX SERIES MIDDLE EAST 14TH APRIL / ROTAX SENIOR MAX KARTDROME DUBAI 20TH APRIL.

South African karting racer Fabienne Lanz has had a successful month of April in kart racing in the Middle East. On the 14th of April, she became the first female to stand on the podium in the Rotex Series Middle East. A week later the young South African took a race win in the Rotex Senior Max at Kartdrome in Dubai.

ROTEX SERIES, MIDDLE EAST – 14 APRIL 2012

Fabienne qualified 3rd on a track she had never raced on before, driving a Haase chassis for the first time. Father Peter had cured a misfire in the engine earlier which had helped in the qualifying session.

Heat 1 saw Fabienne drop back as she initially struggled with set up and track issues. She soon fond pace and was able to set the fastest race lap. Heat 2 resulted in a fine 3rd place finish. “I started in 5th place for the final. The kart felt good and I knew I was on the pace to challenge for a win” stated Fabienne.

By the end of lap 1, Fabienne had moved into 2nd place, and by lap 3 of the 15 lap race she took the lead. As she had started on older tyres, Fabienne came under pressure from the 2nd place runner with 4 laps to go.

As Fabienne was a guest driver, she could not score points, and she did not want to jeopardize the outcome of the championship. She relinquished the lead and held on to cross the line in a fine 2nd place, and in doing so became the first female on a Rotex podium in the Middle East.(...)

May 17, 2012- Eighteen year old driver, Savannah Rickli, found success with an overall 2nd place finish in her first weekend driving the #58beatbyagirl.org Porsche Cayman in the Intercontinental Trophy Cup (ITC) Series at New Jersey Motorsports Park May 11-13,. While it was Round Two in the series’ season, it was Rickli’s first competition behind the wheel of the Glass Hammer Racing sponsored Cayman. Rickli drove the Team Isringhausen Cayman in the P2 class of the ITC series’ second season, which has seen a growth in driver entries.

Rickli qualified third in the field of P2 cars and finished the weekend with enough points for a 2nd place finish for the weekend. Rickli knows that the success of her weekend would not have been possible without the talented team that stood behind her. “Glass Hammer Racing has been so incredibly supportive in helping me get to this weekend. They helped me pull together the April test day at NJMP last minute, so that I was able to show up this weekend already knowing the track and the car. The folks at Isringhausen, Chris Smith Racing, and the ITC Series provided continued support all weekend so that all I needed to focus on was just driving!”(...)

INDIANAPOLIS, Sunday, May 20, 2012 – After learning she won’t be given the opportunity to compete in this year’s Indianapolis 500, British racer Pippa Mann is simply switching her focus to the remaining races on the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series schedule.

Mann’s efforts to get into a car and qualify for this year’s Indy 500 were relentless. The Firestone Indy Lights race winner was present at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for every practice session since opening day, exhausting every option and ready to jump in at any point.

However as fans began arriving at The Brickyard to take their seats in the stands for Pole Day, Mann was given the news that she would not be getting a chance to make this year’s field. “Sometimes these things are beyond our control,” said Mann. “When you know that you’ve done everything you can to achieve something, and it still doesn’t happen, it’s frustrating and of course massively disappointing. But I did all I could and to that end, I have no regrets. Ultimately my only option now is to pick up, dust off, and get back out there!”(...)

Holbrook Captures her Fifth Top Five Finish in Six Races and teammate Tominovich Powers Through Equipment Failure at Laguna Seca

SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 15, 2012 – TrueCar Racing experienced sunny days and cold, foggy through qualifying and racing days in Monterey at the Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. Shea Holbrook, the #67 TrueCar driver competing in the Touring Car class of the Pirelli World Challenge took home a fourth place finish in Friday’s race. Teammate Emilee Tominovich, driving the TrueCar #19 Mazda MX-5 competed in rounds three and four of the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup experiencing gearbox failure in the first race and a truncated second race due to low visibility conditions from the fog.

Holbrook, who has performed consistently within the top five at five of her six races so far this season, had an overall good experience on the storied Laguna Seca track, “For my first time at Laguna I’m extremely pleased with my overall result. We performed near our 100 percent and it was great racing the same weekend as Emliee.” With fickle track temperatures throughout practice, qualifying and race day, Holbrook’s Compass360/SheaRacing team was reactive, having to make quick set-up adjustments to the car. “We had a very solid run and I couldn’t be happier with our Top 5 finish,” said Holbrook. “But, I’m hungry for a podium and at least a win this year, and I’ll stop at nothing to do so.”(...)

Traveling across the country as well as heading to a new facility always brings new challenges to a race weekend.  We are headed to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the next two rounds in the Playboy Mazda MX-5 Cup Series.

Learning a new track always brings multiple challenges for a driver.  Not only adapting to a new place but learning a track you yourself have never driven and brings what some may consider a disadvantage.  Luckily we have such awesome technology these days you can take laps on a simulator to get a feel for what the track has to offer.  Not every person has the opportunity to test before the series attends the event so it is a learning process for the whole team.  I have only ever been as far as Wisconsin/Minnesota west.  Taking the time to do a bit of research on a track is very important.  Ensuring you are prepared as much as possible for each event minimizes any upper hand others who also have never been to the track always helps.

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 29, 2012 – TrueCar Racing experienced success and disappointment on opposite sides of the western hemisphere this weekend as two of its drivers ended up with differing results.  Shea Holbrook, competing in the Touring Car class of the Pirelli World Challenge, took home fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place finishes in three races this weekend while Katherine Legge was unable to complete her race in the IZOD IndyCar Series after contact with the wall damaged her car.

Holbrook, driving the #67 TrueCar Honda Civic Si, had what she described as the best weekend of her racing career thus far.  Racing in three events over two days at Miller Motorsports Park near Tooele, Utah, Holbrook scored a sixth-place finish in the first race yesterday morning (won by Todd Lamb) and then a fourth-place finish in the second race (won by Michael Cooper,) which was held back-to-back with the first.  She rounded out her weekend with a fifth-place finish today after having worked her way from the back of the field.

“I was third on grid today because I had the third-fastest time from the second race of the weekend, said Holbrook.  “I was in a really good position to just stay up front and battle the entire time.  On the start of the race, I’m not sure what happened.  Either we had a misfire or I was in third gear… I couldn’t get the car rolling.  The engine took a moment to breathe because I was on the throttle but then I got full power back and it was fine.  By then I was last. (...)

From Lella Lombardi and Janet Guthrie to Michelle Mouton and Danica Patrick, ladies have come a long way in motorsports.

Meet Miss Natasha Seatter. The Malaysian racer recently became the first female to win a race in the United Arab Emirates. Seatter has been setting the pace from her younger days in karting and Formula BMW single-seaters.

F1Weekly would like to thank Natasha for taking her time to answer our questions, and wish her much success in her racing career.

Q. Congratulations on your victory in Formula Gulf 1000 race. Winning the race by passing championship leader and setting the fastest lap has to be very special feeling for you?

A. Thank you, it’s true that winning races is every driver’s goal but it takes a lot of training, hard work and persistence before that happens. Beating the championship leader is a real confidence booster for me and I really had to focus on not making any mistakes.(...)

SANTA MONICA, Calif., April 25, 2012 – Two members of the TrueCar Racing team will compete on opposite sides of the western hemisphere this weekend, tackling two very different kinds of tracks and unique sets of challenges.  Shea Holbrook, racing in the Touring Car class of the Pirelli World Challenge Series, faces off in three races at the PrivacyStar Utah Grand Prix at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.  Her teammate Katherine Legge will compete over 6000 miles away in round four of the IZOD IndyCar Series Sao Paulo Indy 300 in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

While both women share the experience of being a female race car driver as part of TrueCar’s “Women Empowered” initiative – along with Ashley Freiberg, Verena Mei, Emilee Tominovich and Shannon McIntosh – their weekends will be vastly different.  Legge will be racing on a long, unfamiliar street circuit (most likely in the rain according to local forecasts) while Holbrook has to contend with a dusty road course located at such a high altitude that it will affect the power output of her car’s engine.  Neither woman has raced at their respective venues.(...)

Fabienne Lanz made a cameo appearance in the final race of the DAMC Karting Championship, and walked away with top honours, as she powered to victory in the Senior Max category at Dubai Kartdrome on Friday (20 April 2012) – also a day when the season’s DAMC champions were crowned.

Lanz who is no stranger to the Kartdrome, although she campaigns mainly in South Africa and Europe, was untouchable on the day in the Senior Max category as she qualified in pole position and then proceeded to win the heat race, the pre-final before romping home to win the final.(...)
