The Australian Riders Division (ARD) of Motorcycling Australia (MA) has proudly announced Kim Krebs as 2011 winner of the inaugural ‘Woman of the Year’ award at the Celebration of Women’s Motorcycling in Yackandandah, Victoria.

Kim, a local rider from Yackandandah, accepted the prestigious award in her home town last Saturday 28 January in front of approximately 100 female riders gathered from across the country for the Celebration.

The award recognises Kim’s achievements as a Land Speed Record (LSR) holder, her continued dedication and unique contribution in an often overlooked discipline of Motorcycle Sport.

Kim achieved recognition as the ‘fastest woman in Australia’ when on the salt flats of Lake Gairdner, South Australia, she set a Land Speed Record of 188.412mph (303Kph) in 2010 on her Suzuki GSX-R 750.(...)
Read the rest of Kim Krebs named Australian Rider’s Division ‘Woman of the Year’

I’ve written this first sentence what seems like a million times and then I delete it. The second sentence followed the same pattern…. so I’m just going to “vomit” all of it out so that I can get over my first blog. Doing anything for the first time is the hardest so I know it will get easier as time goes on.

My name is Jenny Besaw and I’m currently racing my 2007 Honda CBR 600RR with the Oregon Motorcycle Road Racing Association (OMRRA). I was a late bloomer and swung my leg over a bike at the age of 24. Within a couple months I ended up purchasing my first bike which was a 2004 Honda CBR 1000RR. I spent a little under a year riding the streets before I made it out to the track as a spectator. I don’t remember to much about that day but I remember walking up to the grandstands and the first thing I noticed was a female racer in her leathers with the name “Rimes” written on the back. This lady not only inspired me to ride because I thought to myself, “If she can do it, I can do it”. I was only able to watch her do a few laps before the day had ended but ever since then I haven’t looked back.

I was hesitant to get out on the track with the boys so I signed up for an all women’s track day in 2005. I asked a friend to drive my car so that I could have a gas can and cooler available while I rode my bike. This was a day that will forever change my life…. take a peek at the pictures to see how “green” I was at riding .

After a year of track riding I decided to take my hand at racing. I applied for my novice license with the Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA) and competed in my first race in 2006. I only raced 1 – 2 times a year as it was mainly just for fun. It wasn’t until 2010 that my goals had changed. I was mentally ready and wanted to become more competitive in the sport. I ended 2011 with the following finishes – (2) 1st place, (3) 2nd place and a 3rd place finish. I applied for an expert license through OMRRA at the end of this year and my application was accepted.

Next year will be my first year competing as an expert and I plan on racing in the 600 supersport, 600 superbike and super team races. If you’d like to stay up-to-date with my racing feel free to check out www.facebook.com/jennybesawracing or check back on FRN for a race report during the season.

Hopefully you ladies (and guys) made it through my first blog and haven’t fallen asleep. I have additional news to share… lets just say I picked up a wonderful sponsor who gave me a chance of a lifetime. The company starts with a G and ends with alfer!

PS – A special Thank You to Amber Rimes.

IT’S been a season to remember for York motorcycle racer Sarah Boyes.

The 23-year-old Team Boyes Racing rider has clinched the Auto66 Club Road And Track Championship, while also winning a coveted ‘replica’ at the Isle of Man TT races.

Boyes, who lives on the outskirts of York, took the nine-round championship by storm, winning her Northern Lightweight class by eight points on her 125cc Honda bike.

In only her third season of competitive racing, the former Manor School pupil also achieved one of her motorcycling dreams at the Isle of Man Manx Grand Prix.

She finished 11th in the newcomers race for bikes up to 400cc with an average speed of 91.5mph and 20th in the lightweight race for up to 400cc machines.

However, that was enough to earn the North Yorkshire Road Race Supporters Club rider first place in the 125cc category – and the accolade of best female rider.

Boyes, who works for Royal Mail delivering in the Stamford Bridge area, said: “It’s been a really good season. I fulfilled my ultimate ambition at the Isle of Man – to win a replica was really special.(...)
Read the rest of Route 66 is gold way for Boyes motorcycle racer Sarah

READING, Pa. (Sept. 29) – GEICO Suzuki rider Karen Stoffer believes national records in Pro Stock Motorcycle could come tumbling down in this weekend’s Auto-Select NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.

Usually, the cooler weather and agreeable atmospheric conditions in Reading are ideal for high speeds and quick elapsed times. Stoffer hopes the GEICO team, led by crew chief/husband Gary Stoffer, can capitalize on the good conditions to be a part of the chase for a national elapsed time record, worth 20 bonus points.

“Gainesville, Sonoma and Reading have always been the ones where people try to set records because of all the oxygen in the trees around there, and generally, there tends to be cooler temperatures,” Stoffer said. “It can be a fast track. Gary’s a good tuner, and he’s exceptional in the cool weather.”

Stoffer was pretty good in the cool weather in Charlotte two races ago, qualifying third and reaching the final round. That was her fifth final of 2011 in what has become a career season for the GEICO team.(...)
Read the rest of Record-setting runs on second-place rider Stoffer’s mind

I finished out the MotorcycleSuperstore.com Women¹s Motocross Nationals this weekend at Pala Raceway with 4-4 moto scores and rounded out the Nationals fifth overall in points.

Season Recap

My season started off rough due to an ankle injury I sustained racing during the second moto at Hangtown(Round 1). Fortunately, as my ankle got better so did my results, which were just a bit inconsistent. I would have a really good moto and then a really bad one. Right before Thunder Valley (Round 3) I started training with Sean Hamblin and that made a big difference in my riding. We also made some improvements to the bike during the break and my ankle was nearly healed up. I earned third place in Moto 1 at Lakewood, but unfortunately in Moto 2, while I was in position for a podium, I made a mistake on the last lap – it put me way back for the overall result.

At Red Bud (Round 4) and Millville (Round 5) I rode consistently for fourth in both rounds, and I gained some valuable championship points. After Millville I switched to Supercross to train for X Games. Kawasaki was nice enough to prep their test track and give Livia Lancelot, Sara Price, and myself the opportunity to practice on it as much as we liked. Dunlop came out to the practice track and helped with tire selection. X Games obviously went perfect. I won my heat race and the Gold in the main event. I was really happy to finally be able to show what I can do and represent my sponsors the way that they deserve. (...)
Read the rest of Vicki Golden Pala WMX Report

In a sport that has never had a female winner, 20-year-old Shayna Texter has broken that drought after her battle at the Knoxville Raceway in Iowa.

Coming from the seventh position, Texter worked her way through the best in the sport to victory Sept. 10 in the AMA Pro Racing Grand National Championship event.

In a male-dominated sport, AMA Pro Flat Track Racing has two top drivers who are fast female motorcycle racers, Texter and Nichole Cheza. These two stars are heading to North Central Speedway in Barrows for the Grand National Championship event Sept. 24, the only time AMA Pro Racing Flat Track comes to Minnesota in 2011.

As the points battles heat up in the Harley-Davidson Insurance-Expert Twins and MotorcycleSuperstore.com Pro Singles, round 18 of 20 will be an important stop. As AMA Pro Racing rolls into Paul Bunyan country, the Expert Twins season points are too close to call with “Jamm’in” Jared Mees leading “Slamm’in” Sammy Halbert by four and defending champion Jersey-Jake Johnson by five.(...)
Read the rest of Females two of top drivers heading to NCS, BIR

CHARLOTTE (Sept. 18) – Karen Stoffer and the GEICO Suzuki team kicked off the Countdown to the Championship by racing all the way to the final round of the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway.

Stoffer moved up to second in the Pro Stock Motorcycle standings and is 63 points behind leader Eddie Krawiec with five races remaining in the 2011 NHRA season.

On Sunday, Stoffer turned on the red light .028 seconds too early in the finals against Krawiec.

“I guess the excitement and everything got to me,” Stoffer said. “I’d been cutting good lights all day long. We hadn’t been in that lane, so we made some adjustments for the left lane. But, ultimately when you cut a .028, that’s definitely the driver, not the bike.”

The final-round appearance was Stoffer’s fifth of the season but first since winning in Denver four races ago. Since then, nagging engine problems have plagued the GEICO team, though the engine “Maverick” was fast and consistent in Charlotte.(...)
Read the rest of Stoffer second in PSM points after runner-up finish

In the past year-and-a-half we have witnessed the unprecedented happen not once but twice. It began when Elena Myers became the first female to win an AMA Pro road race with her victory in the Supersport class at Infineon Raceway. This past Saturday, history was made again as we watched Shayna Texter become the first female rider to win an AMA Grand National Dirt Track race when she captured the flag in the Pro Singles Half-Mile at Knoxville, Iowa. The crowd went absolutely wild. We were so excited for Shayna we gave her a call from the opposite side of the country to talk to her about her accomplishment.

Motorcycle USA: TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

Shayna: I’m Shayna Texter from Willow Street, PA. I pretty much live in Amish country. I started racing in 2003 full-time but started riding when I was three years old. I had to wait for my dad to retire from professional road racing. I was the 2003 AMA Female Sports Rider of the Year and I won multiple amateur national championships and Hot Shoes in the 450 Pro Sport Class. Just this past weekend I became the first female to ever win a Grand National dirt track race and the first female to ever be in the victory circle at Knoxville Speedway.

YOU’RE THE FIRST FEMALE TO EVER WIN AN AMA GRAND NATIONAL DIRT TRACK. HOW’S THAT FEEL?

It feels amazing; I’m still smiling from ear to ear. I had to go back and re-watch the video last night by myself at two in the morning and make sure it was actually real. It’s been a dream of mine the last couple years to win a Grand National dirt track race, especially when my dad and grandfather passed away. My motivation has gotten even higher so I just put my head down and got to work and in the end, it paid off and I’m a winner.

YOU RECENTLY LOST YOUR DAD. HOW DID THAT INSPIRE YOU TO GO OUT AND WIN?
You know, August 30th last year was a nightmare for me. It was when my dad passed away. It was almost exactly a year ago and four months after that my grandfather passed away, the two biggest inspirations in my racing career. When he passed away I was actually sitting beside my dad in the hospital room. When he passed, I said “You know what? We’re going racing this weekend. We need to plan to go to Springfield, IL because that’s what my dad would have wanted me to do.” It was my dream, his dream and you know, I just kept rolling. Every weekend, every race my dad is there. I know he is, I can feel it, and this past weekend I just had a special feeling on the way out. I was driving and I looked at my good buddy Chad Cose and I said “Guess what?” When he replied I said, “I’m going to win this weekend!” So, that’s exactly what I set my mind on and well, my dream came true. (...)
Read the rest of Motorcycle-USA.com Interviews Shayna Texter

Heading into the 2011 WMX series finale at Pala Raceway with a comfortable 22-point lead in the championship point standings, Red Bull’s Ashley Fiolek needed nothing more than a safe and conservative ride to lock down her third Women’s Motocross Championship in four years, and she did exactly that with a solid third-place overall performance in front of Southern California’s motocross faithful.

As the sun shone on the Pala circuit, beat and battered from the two men’s motos earlier in the day, the much-anticipated WMX moto one gates finally dropped and a battle between Fiolek and championship rival Jessica Patterson immediately ensued.

With everything to lose and a championship to gain, Fiolek kept her excitement and determination in check as she let the hard-charging Patterson go, and then threw down seven smooth and consistent laps en route to a smart second-place finish.(...)
Read the rest of ASHLEY FIOLEK WINS 2011 WMX CHAMPIONSHIP

Being a professional motorcycle racer is tough enough, but being one of the youngest among the AMA riders and being a female makes what Elena Myers has accomplished even more impressive.

Myers, 17, became the first woman to ever win an AMA event when she took the checkered flag on May 15 last year at Infineon Raceway in California. This year, she recently finished fifth in the SuperSport West standings despite missing two races with a broken wrist. She’ll finish he 2011 campaign this weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Myers won’t be racing for points since her class is divided into East and West, but she’s anxious to get out and improve on her eighth-place finish in the race she started in Millville last year.

“It’s a fun track and last year I didn’t perform as well as I would have hoped,” Myers said. “This year, it’s been a work in progress and I hope to do well and I’m going to go all out.

“I just want to get experience at all the tracks, and it would be terrible to think that my season is ending in July.”
