Jessica Clark Second Behind Lyons in Star Grand American Modified

VENTURA, California — Jessica Clark Racing has one race event of dual main events remaining for the 2012 Star Grand American Modifieds and the 18 year old currently sits third in the championship. This past Saturday night, Clark returned to Stockton 99 Speedway to run the final race in the Tri Holiday Classic mini-series. The Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver took home a second place finish making this her fourth second place finish.

Clark headed into Saturday nights features running both the NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds and the Star Grand American Modified series. The Star GAM series is a series within a series program that allows older Modifieds to complete within the Whelen series and be competitive with its own points and payouts. Drivers who compete in the Star GAM series are entered in two separate points systems as well as payouts. The rookie qualified seventeenth fastest in the Whelen division and third in the Star GAM series with a time of 14.901 seconds.

Jessica ran in the four lap fast trophy dash where she finished third. In the first 60 lap feature, Clark was set to start 17th on the grid with the Whelen series. In the opening laps, Clark progressed to 13th by lap three. Running solid in the 13th position looking to move forward until a caution was thrown on lap ten had Clark fall back to 14th on the restart. This didn’t discourage Jessica one bit as she had 50 laps remaining to get the job done. By lap 28, Clark advanced to the 12th position until another similar restart incident she fell back to 13th. In the next six laps, Jessica picked up a few more positions to wound up in the sixth position running with the lead pack. Another yellow was thrown on lap 37 and Clark was set to restart on the outside third row. Clark said her car worked really good on the bottom groove as she struggled on the outside of the restart as she fell back to 11th battling with teammate Nik Romano. As the laps began to near the checkered flag Clark picked up a few more positions and ended up completing the race in eighth in the Whelen series and a second in the Star GAM division. The leader in the Star GAM division nearly finished the race as the driver ran out of fuel but was able to complete the race in front of Jessica.

“It was a very exciting race and I enjoyed moving up through the field. I love racing modifieds at Stockton 99 Speedway because the competition is tough and you have to drive at the top of your game at all times. Thanks to my crew for giving me a good setup for the 60 lap feature and thank you to all of my sponsors,” stated Jessica Clark.

Clark’s next race is scheduled for September 15th at Stockton 99 Speedway for the 2012 championship finale featuring dual 40 lap main events.
