Jessica Clark Wins First Star Grand American Modified Race

VENTURA, California — 18 year old rookie Jessica Clark headed into rounds 19 and 20 of the Star Grand American Modifieds last Saturday night at Stockton 99 Speedway with determination. The Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle development driver claimed her first ever Modified victory at the season championship finale.

This is Clark’s fourth year in the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle program, which develops drivers for a career in motorsports after an extensive application and tryout process. Clark joined the program in 2009 where she started racing in the USAC Focus Midget Series. In 2011 Jessica pulled double duty. She became the first female to collect two USAC championships and got her toes wet in full sized stock cars, running the S2 Limited Late Models at Irwindale Speedway.

Clark jumped into Saturday night’s features running both the NASCAR Whelen All American Modifieds and the Star Grand American Modified series. The Star GAM series is a series within a series program that allows older Modifieds to compete within the Whelen series and be competitive in the Star GAM series with its own points and payouts. Drivers who compete in the Star GAM series are entered in two separate points systems as well as payouts. The rookie qualified 11th fastest with a time of 14.372 seconds just .074 seconds from teammate Keegan Walmer in ninth. Jessica went on to win the Star GAM Trophy Dash in a tough battle over veteran Nick Lyons.

In the feature, Jessica started 11th on the grid and progressed well through the first few cautions landing the sixth spot on lap eight. Clark ran consistent with the lead pack for the remainder of the race, finished sixth in the Whelen division, and collected her first ever Star GAM victory.

This concluded Clark’s racing season as she will regroup with testing and training in the off season to return back to the NASCAR Modifieds. Stay tuned to www.jessicaclarkracing.com for information about Jessica’s 2013 racing plans.
