Circle Track — 22 April 2008

April 21, 2008 – It has been an incredible week with us at KMR. We traveled to Wheatland Mo to visit Lucas Oil Speedway which is better known as “The Diamond of Dirt Tracks.”

The night saw Kathryne starting 4th in our heat race with the 11x of Garry Lee Maier on the pole and the 29 of Travis Rilat on the outside of the front row. Kathryne moved up quickly to third and was hanging on the tail tank of the second place car lap after lap. With the track locked down I didn’t think she had a chance, at the checker flag the 11x and 29 tangled in turn four and Kathryne drove underneath both of them and raced to the finish line only to be showed the yellow instead of the checkered flag. As the field was reset with Kathryne on the point and some of the winnings’ drivers in sprint car history in tow I was a little nervous as to the possible out come of the green, white, checkered finish to come. In true veteran style Kathryne waited till she was practically out of turn four to pick up the throttle and rocket by the cone, coming out of the second turn on the final lap she had a three car length lead and I thought maybe just maybe, only to look up and see a car sitting in the middle of the apex in three and four. Out came the yellow and another restart, this time however Kathryne caught them all sleeping when she started in turn three and had a comfortable lead going into one and ran away with it to post her first ever ASCoT national heat race victory.

As exciting as it was it was short lived, as a decision to change the left rear tire spelled disaster for the handling in the feature, but the talented little lady brought the car home in one piece and was still on the track racing for position and the end.

This weekend look for the team to run two ASCoT national events. Paris Motor Speedway in Paris Texas on Friday and then on Saturday we travel to the home of the Short Track Nationals in Little Rock Ar. And take on the ever tricky I-30 Speedway. Hope to see some of you at the track soon.
