Stoffer anxious to get back on her GEICO Suzuki in Texas

DALLAS (Sept. 20) – GEICO Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Karen Stoffer is happy that the next NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing event – the Texas NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex – is only five days after the last race.

Stoffer’s GEICO Suzuki was flying in Charlotte, qualifying No. 3 and racing all the way to the finals. So she’s ready to get back on such a fast bike.

Plus, Stoffer is looking for a little redemption. She red-lighted in the finals in Charlotte and looks to erase that bad memory as quickly as possible.

“You don’t have time to dwell on anything because you’ve got to get right back on the bike and prove you can do what you’ve got to do.” Stoffer said. “It probably helps in this case that Dallas is so soon.”

Plus, Stoffer isn’t just a one-man band. She and crew chief/husband Gary Stoffer both have to put Charlotte in its proper perspective.

“We both have to work at pulling the best out of the Charlotte weekend and putting the bad stuff behind us,” Karen Stoffer said. “We’ve had red lights during qualifying, but we fixed it during elimination rounds. I know how to fix it, and I think I know what happened in the final round. I need to go out and fix it, and hopefully, I’ll get another shot in the final round to prove that I fixed it.”

Stoffer gained one spot in Charlotte to rank second in the PSM points standings, and Dallas marks the second of the six-race, Countdown to the Championship.

“It’s nice to start off well,” Stoffer said. “If you have to do well at a race, it’s nice to do it at the first race. They bunched us all together with the new point change, and this gives us a little more breathing room.

“But you know what? Every single race in the Countdown is important. That’s what it comes down to. We’ve got to go to Dallas and have our consistent bike and program and hopefully go four rounds on Sunday again.”

Stoffer has one victory this season, in Denver, and has reached the finals five times. The GEICO Suzuki has qualified fourth or better in all but two races.

Pro Stock qualifying is slated for 2:15 and 5:15 p.m. on Friday, and for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Final eliminations will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
