Ruman Looking Forward to Watkins Glen

Munroe Falls, Ohio (5 July 2012) – In racing, there is nothing like carrying some momentum and one racer who is happy to be heading back to the track this weekend is Amy Ruman.

Fresh off her first Trans Am victory of the season at New Jersey Motorsports Park just days ago, Ruman will be back in race action again this weekend in the No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette as Trans Am travels north to historic Watkins Glen International in upstate New York.

Ruman led eight laps at the New Jersey circuit last weekend en route to her second Trans Am victory – making history yet again after she became the first woman to win a Trans Am race last year at Road Atlanta. She will look to capitalize on the positive performance at New Jersey with another strong run at the legendary 3.4-mile New York road course on Sunday.

Watkins Glen has been the site of several successful showings for the Ruman Racing team with Ruman amassing two victories, seven podiums, and five poles at the track in GT-1 competition. She made one Trans Am start at The Glen in 2009 and finished fourth after qualifying eighth.

“It’s nice to be going back to a track where we’ve got not only a lot of experience, but also as a team—and a family–a lot of good memories,” said Ruman, who now carries the baton as the Ruman Racing legacy of racing success continues. “The Glen is a fast track and compared to some of the slower segments of the lap in New Jersey, we will be carrying a lot of speed on every lap. Even though we’ve got a lot of experience there, this is the first time to the track with our new Corvette, so hopefully we can continue to be able to dial it in quickly, just like we have the last few weekends.”

Having gained ground in the championship hunt with the win at New Jersey, Ruman currently sits third in the championship just 11 points out of the top spot. She will look for a return to the top step of the podium as she targets her second consecutive victory.

“Winning the (Trans Am) race last year in the season finale was really cool—to break through and get that first victory is always a big deal,” admitted Ruman. “But to come back and do it again last weekend, particularly having fought for the lead and then having to pit so late in the race but still coming back for the win—it was so gratifying for the whole team. So, loading up to go racing again this weekend, we are all still very excited and really want to keep having that kind of weekend. Hopefully we can have another good event and be strong in the points once again.”

The weekend will see Ruman Racing have the opportunity to score some additional podium time, as Amy is also entered in the SCCA National GT-1 race that is set as part of the Trans Am race weekend. And Amy isn’t the only one hoping for the chance to spray some champagne, as her sister Niki Ruman Skinner will be back in Spec Racer Ford (SRF) action as well, driving the No. 23 McNicholsCo./Dynasty Motorsports entry during the Watkins Glen event as the Ruman Racing family celebrates the holiday with a weekend of racing.

The race weekend will see three days of on-track action as the Trans Am Series headlines the event which opens with official practice on Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday. The 29-lap, 98.6-mile race is set for Sunday at 1:00 PM (ET).

Viewing Note: The Trans Am New Jersey Motorsports Park highlights race show will air on MAVTV, Sunday July 14th at 6:00 pm EST.
