Hot on the heels of an impressive 11th Overall on the recent SJR Plains Rally,
22 year-old Brecon resident, Sara Williams, finished the Severn Valley Stages a
mighty 6th overall, picking up the award for 2nd in class and first female driver.
Full of confidence, Sara, the 2011 John Easson Award Winner, headed out in her
KLARIUS Group backed Subaru Impreza for the opening loop of stages around
the Welsh military training ground of Epynt, usually associated with battles
during the World Rally Championship round Wales Rally GB.
The wrong tyre choice for the opening stage put Sara on the back foot. “We went
for too hard a tyre and couldn’t find the grip. A big moment in stage 2 put is un
a ditch but would’ve been much worse – we lost about 10 seconds but it could
easily have put us out of the event” Sara reflected.
Sat with experienced co-driver Patrick Walsh, Sara headed out after service with
new tyres on and proceeded to set 4th fastest time on the Crychan North stage.
Putting in a mature performance Sara consolidated her 6th position, running as
high as 5th overall for much of the event, plus took a strong points haul to keep
her MSA Welsh National Rally Championship alive.
Sara now lies joint third overall in the hotly contested MSA Welsh National Rally
Championship and will be looking to build on her great results in her KLARIUS
Group backed Subaru Impreza, with support from Millers Oils, Brecon Motors,
Woodford Trailers, Brecon Car Rentals and Ian Jones Tyres, on the Nicky Grist
Quinton Stages Rally in July.
