With all the attention women in motorsports are getting these day’s it seems as though were under a huge microscope, every move we make is being recorded and analyzed.
As some of you know powerboat racing has been my passion. I am honored to follow my dreams and be surrounded and supported by a wonderful team, family and sponsors. However, this microscope, at times, can be overwhelming. It can add stress to an already tense racing environment but as I have learned it can be used as an incredible tool to help others, either by motivating individuals to follow there dreams or sometimes by helping people we will never see or meet.
In 2011, the team was fortunate enough to work with our racing series to raise funds for “Tour for the Cure” which is part of Vera Bradely’s foundation. A few weeks ago, I received an email by David Bayer and his daughter, Emma. David explained that in 2010, Emma met pro-soccer player, McCall Zeboni and they instantly became very good friends and eventually created “MZ & Emmers Sports Bra Auction for Breast Cancer”. Women athletes from professional sports donate there autographed and decorated sports bra’s to be auctioned off on Ebay for charity.
Last year, David and Emma collected 84 bras by professional athletes and raised over $4,400 for Komen for the Cure. It is an honor to be involved in this program and be able support a great cause. I am motivated by how driven and selfless David and Emma are. They have donated countless hours contacting athletes and are helping people they will never see or meet.
David and Emma are doing there part to make a positive contribution to the world and now I am encouraging every professional, semiprofessional; weekend warrior and FRN reader to invest there time to make a positive difference. You don’t need millions of dollars or an extensive amount of time to help someone. No matter how big or small, we can contribute and make a positive change.
The auction’s start April 7 th , you can check out there MZEmmers Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MZEmmers
