Lexington, Ohio (3 June 2012) – Amy Ruman once again returned to the Mid-Ohio podium on Saturday as the Ohio-based racer claimed victory in the SCCA GT-1 event held at her home track ahead of next weekend’s Trans Am race at the 2.258-mile Ohio road course.

Ruman started the weekend strongly when she captured the pole on Saturday and led flag-to-flag as the No. 23 McNichols Co./Goodyear/Cenweld Corvette paced the field for the entire 19-lap race. The win marked Ruman’s fourth consecutive GT-1 victory at Mid-Ohio.

Ruman looked to make it five in a row on Sunday after claiming her second pole position of the weekend on Sunday morning. She set a strong pace early on to lead the initial laps of the race, but unfortunate contact with a competitor in a different class while lapping the field would see that effort thwarted as the Corvette sustained damage and was forced to pit for repairs.

Quick work from the Ruman Racing crew saw Ruman return to the track, but the pit stop had cost the No. 23 machine significant track position. Ruman ran a few more laps after the stop, but damage to the rear suspension ended her race early.

“It was a good weekend overall for us and it was encouraging to have the speed that we did with the new Corvette,” said Ruman, who will be back in action on the same track this weekend for the third round of the Trans Am championship.

“It was a great way to get ready for Trans Am, but we obviously didn’t want to come out of the race with a banged up car like we did! It was really disappointing to be taken out as we were having a great battle with Doug (Peterson, fellow Trans Am competitor). The crew is working hard to make the repairs and we will be ready to go this weekend!”

Ruman Racing made the most of the weekend with the team continuing to dial in thenew Corvette throughout the two race days. In addition to Saturday’s victory, the weekend also provided valuable information as the team prepares for Round 3 of the Trans Am championship next week.

Currently third in the point standings, Ruman aims for a return to the top step of the Mid-Ohio podium next weekend as she targets her first home track Trans Am victory.
