My Visit To The Nürburgring
The 10 hour journey to the world famous Nürburgring in Germany turned out to be well worth it. Having only driven the circuit on the iZone simulator I knew it was going to be a big challenge to get used to the track in just 2 hours of practise but I improved in each session and when it came to qualifying I was feeling in good shape. Despite having faster and slower traffic on all but my last lap, I managed to put in a time quick enough for second place which I was extremely pleased with. Dominic qualified in the second session and managed a result of 5th place out of bigger grid of 8 cars for the weekend.
My stint in Race 1 was eventful at the start as I tried to make a move on the first turn to find a Porsche facing the wrong way in front of me meaning I had to yield to make it round the second turn. I ended up at the back of the pack of GT4 cars and left myself with quite a lot of work to do but thanks to an incident on the last corner of lap one I made up a few positions and when me and Dom swapped over we found ourselves just behind second place. Unfortunately there was a communication error between the team and Dom and he slowed on his second lap out thinking there was a safety car and we lost 10 seconds and dropped us into the clutches of fourth but he successfully managed to bring it home in 3rd despite this.

A better start made in race 2 meant Dom held 5th place but we were carrying some damage which was caused by slight contact with another driver and the bonnet was slightly dislodged. Because of this the team wanted to change drivers fairly early on in the window to secure it down. I had an amazing stint after a great driver change by the team and we managed to jump a few cars in the pitlane I had to work equally hard to create a gap between me and 4th place and then made an overtook to take 2nd place as soon as I caught up to the back of them. By the end of the race I had managed to close the gap to the leader by 20 seconds! If only they hadn’t been so far away when I jumped in then we may have had more chance to battle for the win.Coming back from the prestigious Nürburgring track with a double podium is brilliant and I am really looking forward to the next round at Rockingham in 3 weeks time which I love in a rear wheel drive car using a slightly different complex. Century Motorsport did a spotless job and I’d like to thank my sponsors for giving me the opportunity to race overseas. For now I better get back to my revision for my A Levels!
