County Durham’s fast female had a busy weekend when she raced at opposite ends of the Country this weekend, taking a class win in the process despite mechanical gremlins.

She first raced her 1971 Elden Mk8 in her regular series HSCC Formula Ford at Brands Hatch on Saturday. She qualified 4th only 4 tenths of a second away from Pole sitter Darren Burke. She stayed in the same position in the race, although felt she could have challenged for a win had it not been for an overheating and down on power engine. The result consolidates her 3rd place in the championship.

She then travelled north to Cadwell Park Lincolnshire for Sunday’s URS Classic FF1600 Championship race. “When we got to Cadwell and had a good look at the engine we realised there was a distributor problem which was causing a big loss in power in the Brands race – I know I’d have been a lot quicker without it.” she said.

Once the problem was sorted, she flew in qualifying at Cadwell, setting the Class Pole Position and 2nd overall ahead of many cars nearly 10 years newer than hers. In the race, she made a great start to take a big lead, but quickly hit problems with a misfiring engine. “A screw top on one of the plug leads had worked its way loose, so I was only running on 3 cylinders most of the time.” Despite this, she went on to finish 1st in class and 3rd overall, just 7 seconds away from the overall winner.

She looks forward to racing at Donington Park in a fortnight; “We are gradually getting on top of all the main issues with the car – I think I’ll be flying when it all comes together”.
