Orlando, FL. (May 19, 2011) – After claiming her first professional win at the Grand Prix of Long Beach competing in the Pirelli World Challenge Touring Car Championships, Shea Holbrook is a young driver to look out for. This 21 year-old thrill seeker has passion, commitment, and determination to do what it takes to be a winner.
Holbrook made history as she became just the second woman – and first in the Touring Car class – to win a World Challenge race in the 22-year history of the production-based sports car series. Holbrook also is now the third-youngest woman to win a race at Long Beach, trailing Simona de Silvestro’s win in the Atlantic Championship at the age of 19 in 2008 and Danica Patrick’s Pro/ Celebrity race win at the age of 20 in 2002.
Winning has its perks and Holbrook felt the financially reward during the Long Beach
weekend. “We’re definitely the underdogs in touring car. I’m extremely happy that we finally got a win but we are still struggling to get back on track. It’s hard racing with very limited funds when I have so much drive to be the best,” Holbrook said.
Weeks after Holbrook got yet another phone call of congratulations and reward. Grassroots Motorsports Magazine, the official media partner of the series, presented a $500 Grassroots to Glory Award to Holbrook. The Grassroots to Glory Award is given after each race to the privateer driver (with less than two seasons of participation in the series) who best exemplifies the perseverance and spirit of competition in each Pirelli World Challenge race.
“It’s a great overwhelming feeling! We can’t thank Grassroots enough,” said Holbrook. Then why isn’t Holbrook in the race seat for round 5 at Mosport (May 21-22) of the Pirelli World Challenge Championship?
“Because we are not a fully funded race team we have to take it race by race and it’s frustrating. This award from Grassroots Motorsports really goes to heart, grassroots to glory! I’m looking to partner with a company who wants to think outside of the box, together become a brand and receive national publicity, and experience the reward with direct ROI. I’m not just looking for a chance; I’m looking for an opportunity to do something great” said Holbrook.
Today, the Shea Racing team launched their new program called Driven. The Driven Fan Club was established for fans to truly be a part of Shea’s professional racing career. By joining Driven you can actually help keep Shea in the race seat and be a part of her professional career into stardom. It’s obvious that fans play a large role in the success of an athlete, and Shea wants to give back to you. “I’ve been blessed to have met some of the most generous, out-going, and passionate race fans. I truly enjoy interacting with you all and especially our little race fans! From everyone at Shea Racing, we like to thank you for support on and off the race track.”
You can join today! During every race weekend Shea and team will make short video’s
personally thanking you on Facebook and Twitter. Your donation will enter you into a raffle which will take place at the last race of the season October 1, 2011 for a chance to win a Shea Racing Fan Pack. For more information visit www.SheaRacing.com
