Round number two of the 2010 WMX series went down in Freestone County, Texas over the weekend at the Freestone National, and Red Bull riders Ashley Fiolek and Tarah Gieger finished second and third overall, respectively.
Though blistering hot temperatures created extremely challenging conditions for the riders, fans still came out in droves to support an incredible day of racing in Texas!
In moto one, Honda Red Bull Racing’s Fiolek snatched the holeshot and early lead. Fiolek and series rival Jessica Patterson immediately began stretching out a comfortable margin over the rest of the pack, with Lucas/TLD/Honda’s Geiger settling into the third position.
Despite a valiant effort to challenge for the win, Fiolek eventually settled into the second spot behind a hard-charging Patterson. Gieger held down third for the entire moto, finishing comfortably ahead of the fourth-place rider as the checkers waved.
Fiolek grabbed yet another holeshot to kick off moto two, but much like the first moto, Patterson tenaciously chased her down and took over the lead. Ashley gave it everything she had to make another run for the lead, but in the end she would take another second place for second overall on the day.
A near carbon copy of moto one, Gieger finished third once again, and cruised in for third overall.
The WMX series now takes a couple weekends off, returning on June 26th at the Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, Colorado.
