Vicki Golden Freestone WMX Race Report

In the week between Hangtown and Freestone my mechanic made some improvements to my race motor and brought it to Texas with him. I wasn’t able to ride or do much during the week because of my ankle injury, but I still wanted to try to get some points and do my best at Freestone.

In Moto 1 I got a great start. I was running in about 5th when I noticed something wrong with my front end. I tried to ride but was dropping positions. After the race it turned out that the spring broke in my holeshot device and it was on the whole time. It was pretty frustrating. I know these things happen in racing and next time to pull in to the mechanics’ area. The women’s motos are so short (15 minutes plus one lap) that it didn’t occur to me to do that. I finished 15th.

Moto 2 I got another great jump off the start. My ankle was pretty sore from the first moto. I rode as strong as I could. I finished 6th place in that moto.

I am happy for the three-week break before the next WMX National (June 25th at Lakewood) to recover and get more seat and testing time. BTW, before I left for Texas I got my invite from ESPN for Women’s Moto X at X-Games and I am also first alternate for Women’s Enduro X – both events air live on ESPN in July!

Thanks to all my sponsors for giving me the chance to race this summer – Motorcycle-USA.com/Langston Motorsports Kawasaki, Parts Unlimited, Thor MX, MBM, Dunlop Tires, Resner Builders and Hardware, DRC, Zeta, FMF, Factory Connection, MotoTassinari, One Industries, Vortex, RK Excel America, Maxima, LightSpeed, Hinson Clutches, X Factor, K & N Filters, Viper Tool Box and Spy Goggles.

And thank you Michael at Suzuki City for transporting my bike to the races.
