]]>Last night (May 1st 2013) we had an outstanding episode of Behind the Helmet. In case you missed it here it is for your viewing pleasure.
We had three amazing guests, including Jennifer Jo Cobb, Katherine Legge and Michele Abbate. These three ladies all have very different racing backgrounds and they had some amazing stories to tell. We learned a lot about them and are excited to share the video of the time we had with them. Katherine did have to leave out of the show early to get on another call. I will update this post with her answers to the questions she missed once she has returned them to me.
Who would you like to see on the show next?
Katherine’s Missed Questions:

]]>The post Johanna Long ESPNW: I’m pumped and ready to race at Daytona appeared first on Female Racing News | News about Women in Motorsports.
]]>After weeks and weeks of anticipation, I have finally made it to Daytona for the start of the 2013 NASCAR season. The green flag drops over Daytona International Speedway on Saturday for the DRIVE4COPD 300 Nationwide Series race. This girl is ecstatic!
Don’t get me wrong, every race is exciting and I feel just as blessed any time I have the opportunity to get into a race car, but there is something extra special about racing at Daytona.
As a little girl, I always dreamed of racing at this historic track, but never in a million years did I think I would actually get the opportunity. Thanks to a special lady who has taken a chance on me, my team owner Mary Louise Miller, I get to suit up Saturday for one of the biggest races of the year.
For those of you who have watched NASCAR racing at Daytona, you probably already know about the speeds, drafting and, of course, all of the three-wide and four-wide action that takes place. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just imagine yourself in a car reaching a speed of 180 mph-plus and then being nose to tail with the cars in front and behind you. Not only do you have cars riding your bumper while pushing you through the corners, but there’s a good possibility you either have two cars above you, below you or you are sandwiched in the middle. It gets pretty intense.
That’s what I love about racing, though. The high-intensity, adrenaline rush that I get from driving a race car is like no other. Everyone has a happy place; well, I consider racing my heaven.
I feel pretty confident in myself and the ML Motorsports team going into this weekend’s race. At this track, it’s all about racing smart, staying out of trouble and having a little luck on your side in order to be in a good position at the end of the race. If we can do that, I see a strong top-10 finish for the ML Motorsports team, which would give us momentum going into the 2013 season.
For me, this season is all about continuing the process of proving myself as a driver. I feel like this is my chance to prove myself and continue to make it known that I belong in this sport. The 2012 season was a good start for me as far as learning the ropes and getting experience in the Nationwide Series, however, this year I’m hungrier than ever for stronger runs and finishes.
My goal is to race competitively in the top-10 and top-15 regularly. My team has been working extremely hard in the shop over the offseason to prepare fast cars, so there’s no doubt in my mind that once I hit the track at Daytona, we’re going to have a strong No. 70 Chevrolet.
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m pumped and ready to race at Daytona.

]]>STATESVILLE, North Carolina (February 14, 2013) – - Officials from Statesville, North Carolina-based Bebida Beverage Company (BeBevCo.) confirmed today that they have reunited with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) veteran Jennifer Jo Cobb for next Friday night’s running of the NextEra Energy Resources 250 at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway.
Last season, BeBevCo.’s KOMA Unwind brand paired with the fan-favorite driver for numerous races during the season’s 22-race tour. However, the season-opener will mark the first time that KOMA Unwind will serve as the title sponsor on her No. 10 Chevrolet Silverado.
Developed by BeBevCo., KOMA Unwind relaxes those who drink it. It also helps them improve both the duration and quality of their sleep with flair and favor. KOMA Unwind is formulated to relax the body, mind and soul. It is the perfect lifestyle beverage for those who can appreciate reduced stress, reduced anxiety or a great night of sleep.
The relaxation or “anti-energy” drink category is fairly new to the beverage industry. This type of drink is dedicated to helping consumers achieve a level of relaxation without the use of pills or alcohol.
With plans to have a healthy presence in Motorsports this year, KOMA Unwind hopes to continue feeding the flames of a “relaxation revolution” in a way to chill without a pill.
“We’re thrilled about this reunion with Jennifer Jo Cobb and her team,” said BeBevCo CEO Brian Weber. “Jennifer is a dedicated racer that we believe in and her connection with the fans is amazing, which obviously makes this partnership that much stronger.”
Cobb, a native of Kansas City, Kansas holds the record as the highest finishing female in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with a sixth place finish ironically occurring at Daytona in February 2011. Her accomplishment succeeds finishes placed by all other women in the series. Cobb, also a frequent competitor in the NASCAR Nationwide Series currently occupies the most starts by a woman in the NCWTS with 56 to her credit.
“I’m so thankful to have KOMA Unwind onboard for Daytona,” sounded Cobb. “It truly is a great product and with my hectic schedule, a can of KOMA Unwind after a long day really turns my evening into total relaxation. We’re hoping to have a good strong run at Daytona and let race fans experience the relaxation revolution for themselves.”
The NextEra Energy Resources 250 (100 laps / 250 miles) is the first of 22 events on the 2013 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule. The first practice session of the year begins on Thursday, February 21st from 12:10 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A final “happy hour” practice session has been etched in that night from 6:00 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. Qualifying is set for race day, Friday, February 22 scheduled to lift off at 1:40 p.m. The 36-truck starting field will take the green flag shortly after 7:30 p.m. with live coverage on SPEED, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). Pre-race coverage of the anticipated thriller is tentatively scheduled to lift off at 7:00 p.m. also on SPEED.

]]>It’s getting that time again.. The closing of another NASCAR season is almost in the books! At the end of each season the voting is opened up for the Most Popular Driver in all of the NASCAR series. We usually don’t make to much of a deal about it but we feel like this year we want to stand up and really push the vote.
We feel pretty strongly about Johanna Long and her tremendous talent. In the 10 races she started this year she finished 7 times out of those 10 better than Danica Patrick. We all know that equipment is a big deal in NASCAR and Johanna is in C- equipment when Danica is in A+.. Johanna doesn’t get nearly the media attention she deserves so we are asking everyone to go vote for Johanna for Most Popular Driver in the Nationwide series. We want her in better equipment and better sponsors.. You can vote once a day with as many email addresses as you have!

]]>The post Jennifer Jo Cobb Launches PSA for Driven2Honor appeared first on Female Racing News | News about Women in Motorsports.
]]>Mooresville, N.C. (April 24, 2012) - Jennifer Jo Cobb, driver of the No. 10 Jennifer Jo Cobb Racing Dodge Ram in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), is proud to take another step forward with her Driven2Honor program. Cobb has created a PSA for the program and is launching the announcement this week. The PSA will air on public broadcasting stations across the nation.
The Driven2Honor program, which Cobb created in 2011, aims to accomplish three goals: to honor women in the U.S. Military, to inspire young women that the military is a viable option for their future and to empower female veterans post-duty.
“I’m so grateful to our race team’s partner, Network West Virginia, for making our Driven2Honor PSA possible,” Cobb said. “This is a huge step. We want to honor and reward our female soldiers for their service to our country, as well as assist female veterans who are struggling post-duty. This announcement will help spread the word. Our PSA will hopefully get more female soldiers, and their friends and families, involved with our initiative. We also hope that the PSA will drive everyone to our website (www.Driven2Honor.org) and educate them on some of the issues that female members of our military face and the different ways that we can support them.”
As a female athlete in a male-dominated sport, Cobb developed Driven2Honor after realizing the similarities between the obstacles that she and female soldiers face in their professions. Cobb decided to use her racing platform to bring attention to military-related causes concerning female soldiers and reward soldiers for their service by hosting them as guests at the track each week she competes in a NCWTS event.
“It’s our honor to host female soldiers and their guests at the race track,” Cobb said. “We owe them a debt of gratitude for their service and bringing them to a race is a small token of our appreciation. We roll out the red carpet for them. From start to finish, they get to see all of the behind-the-scenes action as it develops. They get to tour our hauler, walk with our crew as they take the truck through inspection, have lunch with our team and watch the race from our pit stall while listening to the action on a team radio. Female soldiers can nominate themselves for this experience or friends and family members can nominate someone that they feel deserves the honor. We want the PSA to let everyone know that this is available to them and how they can take advantage of it.”
Cobb is excited to see the program’s growth over the past year and hopes that the PSA will take the program to new heights.
“I’ve always wanted to use my race program for more than just competing on the track. I want it to make a difference in others’ lives,” Cobb said. “The Driven2Honor program has allowed me to do that. I’m very proud of what it’s accomplished and I hope that it continues to grow.”

]]>The post Rookie of the Year Contenders Alexis DeJoria and Danica Patrick Meet in Bristol! appeared first on Female Racing News | News about Women in Motorsports.
]]>The Tequila Patron Toyota Camry Funny Car team took a break from their usual stomping grounds of the drag strip to visit the oval track in Bristol, TN this past weekend for the Food City 500 NASCAR races at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The Tequila Patron NHRA team made the trip down to the land of country music, Funny Car in tow, for a jam-packed ‘NHRA Meets NASCAR’ weekend, and what the team considered an exciting introduction to the NASCAR crowd.
Down in Tennessee, they were greeted with open arms by NASCAR fans and media alike. For Team Patron’s driver, Alexis DeJoria, it was especially exciting as it was her first time ever attending a NASCAR event.
The Friday through Sunday event was filled with numerous appearances each day, including multiple events on various stages in front of thousands, media interviews, fan Q & A sessions, autograph signings, and a chance for what many would consider to be the two reigning queens of NASCAR and NHRA- Danica Patrick and DeJoria- to meet in person for the very first time. The two swapped racing stories, wished each other luck in their run for rookie of the year. The two-motorsport fan-favorites’ are both vying for the prestigious Rookie of the Year title in their respective sports this year. DeJoria presented Patrick with a bottle of Patron Tequila Platinum. Perhaps the girls can share a toast together at the end of successful rookie seasons!
During the weekend DeJoria signed autographs alongside the 40+ NASCAR drivers at the Food City Race Night fan event where her car was also on display; she was introduced to the crowds at both the Toyota and NASCAR VIP/Season Ticket Holders pavilions throughout the weekend; was invited to attend the pre-race Drivers Meeting on both Saturday and Sunday where she was introduced to the drivers, and moments prior to Sunday’s main event, she was invited to do a NASCAR drivers ride around in the outside of a truck waving to fans alongside the other drivers during the official NASCAR driver introductions.
Team Patron was scheduled to start the 8000 hp car on Sunday morning prior to the Sprint Cup race in front of the over one hundreds thousand in attendance, but unfortunately, all pre-race activities were cancelled due to heavy rain, which also prohibited DeJoria from riding in the pace car. On a sunnier note, Team Patron was able to start the Funny Car for tens of thousands of fans and received a response of overwhelming excitement by the crowds. DeJoria and her crew chief, NHRA Top Fuel World Champion Del Worsham also had the opportunity to take part in a special media event held at the NASCAR drivers’ media center where they sat side-by-side for a media Q & A session.
