Looking to the Future…

It’s been a few weeks since my last blog entry – As always we have been super busy getting ready for our first FIA European Championship race meeting, which takes place this weekend.

The weekend after our trip to Hungary all of our regular crew were back round to take a look at the engine, go through everything and do some maintenance. The engine is looking really good and we feel that we’re in a good position for this race.

The Main Event is one of my favourite race meetings. It’s at the beginning of the season so I’m always super excited about the season starting. It’s at our home track too where the crowd are so supportive! We’re always so happy to see so many people cheer after we’ve done a good run or got through to the next weekend. It makes me really proud!

Also for the last 2 years we’ve been in the final of The Main Event! In 09’ We won the event and it was the best meeting we’ve ever had! Last year we got through to the final but were unable to run due to some damage, the truth of the matter was that we were struggling all weekend but we still made the final and Dad was so hot on the lights we were able to win two of the rounds by hole shots so it was a great achievement for the team also.

It would be amazing if we could make it 3 years in a row but the competition is fierce – and we never underestimate that! There are 25 cars in all so the first challenge is qualifying into the 16-car field. European Pro Mod is a great class to watch purely for that fact. There are so many teams on your tail if you don’t consistently push your performance forward you’ll get left behind.

The second challenge is the first round – Because we are the only pro class to run a 16-car field in eliminations our first round is first thing on the Monday morning. The track conditions can change dramatically and therefore it’s usually the most challenging round of the event. Even if you are number 1 qualifier, if you miss on the set up due to track changes then you can easily take an early exit from eliminations. And of course eliminations in general are tough, as the class gets more competitive the races get closer and each round is even harder! But it makes great racing for the spectators and its one of the reasons why we love competing in the class so much because it really is a challenge at every single event and it keeps us on our toes!

As well as get ready for The Main Event – I have been working hard on getting things organised for my racing. I have now got everything I need to jump into a car and get onto the track, I hope that soon I will be able to report on my first test session but we will have to see, I don’t want to rush this process, there is still a great amount of stuff to learn but I’m very excited about it as currently everything is moving in the right direction. As soon as I have information I can release I will of course post on here for you all to see!

For anyone who is around (In the UK) this May bank holiday weekend, come to Santa Pod Raceway because it’s going to be a great weekend. The weather forecast at the moment is looking dry and there are over 300 race teams competing so something to suit everyone. If you are about then come over to our pits and say hello and of course after the weekend I will post to let you all know how we got on – Wish us good luck!
