INDIANAPOLIS (September 17, 2010)- Sarah Fisher, of Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR), announced today that for the second consecutive year she will be “going pink” for this season’s IZOD IndyCar ® Series closing championship race on October 2. SFR, along with their primary sponsor Dollar General, will be partnering with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, the world’s largest breast cancer organization, in the fight against breast cancer. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, Fisher will rebrand her yellow car, team equipment and gear in pink for the Miami Indy 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS).

“Dollar General is proud to partner with Sarah Fisher Racing to raise awareness of breast cancer,” said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General’s chairman and CEO. “We are inspired by many of our employees, customers and friends who have been affected by this disease. Together, we hope to raise awareness and increase funding to find a cure.”

In support of the cause, Dollar General is making a $25,000 donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. SFR and retail partners Maingate and IMS will collectively donate a portion of the retail sales of all Sarah Fisher Racing co-branded pink merchandise.

“This is a very special weekend for myself, the entire SFR team and Dollar General,” said Fisher. “We’re very fortunate to have partners like Dollar General that fully support our efforts with Komen. Together, we can raise greater awareness of how serious breast cancer is and help advance breast cancer research.”

Fans of Fisher and the “On Track For A Cause” campaign were able to participate in a special project by entering a pink design for Fisher’s helmet. The winning helmet design was announced on September 13. The winner will receive a small replica painted helmet and will have their artwork featured on Fisher’s helmet, which will be worn throughout the event weekend at HMS.

Fisher, being one of few female athletes in a male-dominated sport, is bound to bring attention to this very important initiative. By “going pink” in October, Fisher hopes to attract attention to the most common form of cancer in women.

“Around the world, a woman dies from breast cancer every 69 seconds, and that’s just not acceptable,” said Fisher, who has lost a loved one to breast cancer. “SFR and Dollar General are committed to helping Komen decrease that number. I want to do everything I can to help others in their fight.”

SFR will get “On Track For A Cause” on Fri., Oct. 1, 2010, in the No. 67 pink Dollar General Honda powered Dallara in preparation for the Miami Indy 300. Fisher’s best IndyCar Series finish remains second and was achieved at HMS. The race will be shown live on VERSUS at 6 p.m. EST under the lights at HMS.
