MOORESVILLE, May 21, 2011: After tackling two Superspeedways and two short tracks thus far in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, Milka Duno is ready for something a little more familiar – road course racing. While she is an ARCA Racing Series Rookie, Duno is certainly no stranger to the twists and turns of road course racing and couldn’t be more ready to tackle New JerseyMotorsportsPark’s (NJMP) 2.25-mile track when the ARCA Racing Series starts their engines for the ModSpace 150 on Sunday, May 22.

While Duno will be making her first start at NJMP and has never made a stock car start on a road course, her road racing pedigree speaks for itself. Duno earned the highest finish ever by a female driver when she finished second in the 2007 edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Daytona. She also made history as the first woman to win a major international sportscar race when she drove to victory lane in the Rolex Sports Car Series at Homestead-Miami Speedway. She has a total of three overall wins in the Rolex Series and five wins in the American Le Mans Series – including two class wins in the famous Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta – the first woman in history to achieve this feat.(...)

Morning rain throughout the Toledo area caused ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials to cancel Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell this afternoon, leaving the field for tomorrow’s Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care to be set by the 2010 owner standings. ARCA rookie Milka Duno will start first.

Duno’s No. 63 Sheltra Motorsports entry carries the owner points earned by her team owner, 2010 driver and owner champion Patrick Sheltra. ARCA regulations call for the previous season’s owner points to be the reference in any of the first four races of a season; the Menards 200 will be the fourth.

“It always is nice starting up front, but I’d like to know more of the track,” Duno said after the first practice today. “I’m still learning the track today. It’s my first time here, and in the practice it was really, really difficult. It was tough. It’s good that we get some extra practice, but it’s tough when it’s your first time on the track.” (...)

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards driver Milka Duno will appear at the 14th Annual Bedford Public Schools Safety Vehicle Expo on Friday at Monroe Road Elementary School in Lambertville, Mich.

Duno’s appearance is part of her visit to the Toledo area for Sunday’s Menards 200 presented by Federated Car Care, the fourth race of the ARCA Racing Series season.

The event, open to all second and third grade students from five elementary schools in the Bedford district, will feature safety and emergency equipment from more than a dozen public safety and service agencies throughout Monroe County and the Toledo metropolitan area.

Duno’s No. 63 Sheltra Motorsports Dodge will be on display, as will the ARCA safety vehicle, a Dodge Journey supplied by Grogan’s Towne Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Toledo. Duno and representatives from the ARCA Racing Series will be on hand to show approximately 1200 students in attendance how stock car racing can be as safe as it is entertaining.(...)

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race at Daytona is a magnet for up-and-coming drivers, hoping to demonstrate their potential in front of the entire racing community. Not unexpectedly, female drivers are among the hopefuls in the starting field every year. For the 2011 edition, Maryeve Dufault and Milka Duno were the entrants, seeking to capitalize on the attention accorded headliner Danica Patrick a year ago.

Although Dufault and Duno are attractive, their first priority is to be recognized as skilled racers. They qualified 24th and 25th, respectively, and drove well in the wild-and-woolly race until taken out in an accident late in the race.

Dufault, 28, first gained national recognition when she won a Hawaiian Tropical beauty contest a few years ago and thereafter she has appeared in commercials and has had minor roles within the movie and television industry. While she has enjoyed these roles, she has used her earnings as an investment to advance her first priority — motorsports.(...)

SPARTA, KY (September 4, 2010) – Milka Duno finished 19th in tonight’s 200-lap Kentucky Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, KY.

Both the two practice sessions and the qualifying session for the race were on Friday – with the qualifying session sandwiched in-between. In the first practice session Duno was only able to complete 17 laps due to rain – yet delivered a best lap time only 8 tenths of a second off the practice’s leader. Heading into qualifying with less than 20 practice laps before qualifying – as was also the case for last week’s qualifying at Chicagoland – her average lap time was only 5 tenths of a second off the pole-sitter’s time – which put her 24th on the starting grid. In the final practice she was 6 tenths of a second off the leader’s time.(...)

JOLIET, IL (August 28, 2010) – Milka Duno finished 19th out of 29 entries in tonight’s 200-lap Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL.

In her first practice session on Friday morning her on-track time was seriously reduced due to a mechanical issue which caused her to have only 13 laps in the 60-minute session, but it was enough for her to deliver a best lap time only 7 tenths of a second off the practice’s leader.

The mechanical issue fixed, but with no opportunity for a shake-down, Duno qualified 26th for the start of tonight’s race – with a differential of 8 tenths of a second from the pole sitter’s time.

EDMONTON, Alberta — On the first few laps of the first practice Friday, with fresh tires and almost no other drivers around her, IndyCar racer Milka Duno lost control of her car, smashed into the tire barrier and shredded her rear wing.

It gave fellow drivers more reasons to call for the Venezuelan racer to be expelled for a driving style they say is dangerous.

“She’s obviously not up to speed,” Danica Patrick said before Duno’s crash during practice for Sunday’s Honda Indy Edmonton.

Patrick said the problem is not so much Duno’s speed as the fact she doesn’t follow accepted practice and move over when she’s a lap down to let faster drivers get by.

“I’m not against having some different speeds up there, but she’s not as gracious about her position as maybe somebody else might be,” Patrick said.

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 20, 2010) – Handling issues forced an early end to IndyCar driver Milka Duno’s competition in today’s Iowa Corn Indy 250 at Iowa Speedway. In a sport that continues to grow, auto racing also has seen an increase in female drivers. But the sport has yet to see a woman break into the top-tier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on a regular basis.

While Danica Patrick, perhaps the most well-known of the female drivers, has run in three Nationwide Series this year — at Daytona, Fontana, Calif., and Las Vegas — most women are making their mark in the IndyCar Series and the National Hot Rod Association. That could be about to change.(...)
