There are few things that all types of racing have in common, and I think the most important is FANS. NASCAR has been said to have the most loyal fans of any venue of racing or sports in general. I found that out today when I received a package of 175 letters from 3rd, 4th and 5th graders from Cielo Azul Elementary in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The kids all hand wrote letters asking me questions about my racing career and what I have done in order to make my dream a reality. The letters were very touching and I found myself smiling while reading them. I was reminded that I am living my dream and that I get to do an incredible thing that people would love to do if given the chance, and I get to do it everyday. Tim Johnson, who is now the Race Director at Elko Speedway, once told me before a very big race at Raceway Park, “to think about all the people across the nation who would love to be sitting where you are sitting right now. No matter what happens in this race tonight, you have accomplished great things just by being in the seat of this super late model, and you are getting to do what you love to do”. I remember that little pep talk almost every time I climb behind the wheel of my car, and it has helped me to stay focused and to take the good times along with the bad. He also would tell me that no matter the outcome of the race tonight, bananas are still be 38 cents a pound at Kwik Trip. Thanks Tim !(...)
Read the rest of No Matter The Outcome…Bananas Are Still 38 Cents A Pound.

Article by Jeff Hood, RacinToday.com

It was another day at the office for Tammy Jo Kirk at her motorcycle shop in Dalton, Ga. earlier this week when word arrived that 18-year-old Johanna Long had won last Sunday’s Snowball Derby Super Late Model race in Pensacola, Fla.

It was welcome news to the 48-year-old Kirk, the 1994 winner of the Derby. But Long’s win means Kirk is no longer the only female winner of the Derby.

“That is so cool,” said Kirk, when told about Long’s victory. “I had heard that girl was the track champion down there last year. Congratulations to her.”

Kirk’s racing career was hatched on motorcycles. She competed in the AMA National Dirt Track Series during much of the 1980s in an era when men had a difficult time accepting women as competitors.

Lakeport Speedway has the most competitive female drivers around. Last Saturday night we saw the top three Junior Jammer drivers, all female, competing for the win in their feature event. Caity Miller’s #55 led 29 of 30 laps, when on the last lap her car stalled; Kayleigh Sullivan #24 quickly got around Miller with under a lap to go and made it 2 feature wins in a row for her. Hayley Bishop Finished 2nd for her 3rd race in a row, giving her the points lead for the Junior Jammer division. These young ladies show up to win, and they do. Even the starter is a female, Kelley Coburn has been waving the flags at Lakeport Speedway for 3 years now, and she has been a part of doing whatever is required to get the show in. Coburn’s daughter, Melissa, is following in her footsteps and is a big part of Lakeport Speedway, from taking the infield photos, to working in the tower getting the cars lined up.

04/18/2010 Race Report

Atlanta 4/16/2010
Amber completed her heat race in a car that was tight in the middle and loose off, which caused the car to spin the tires off the corners. She was able to adjust the line and managed a 2nd place finish at the Atlanta ¼ mile track.
Starting her feature second row on the outside, amber got down in turn one in third place but then got pushed out by the 4th place car in turn two. Amber fought her way back into the top 5 while missing a couple of wrecks and then brought home a 2nd place finish in a car that was still loose off the corners. Amber did a very good job with what she had to work with.`

4/19/2010

Lanier National

Amber started the day in, practice in a car that was loose in and loose off in the first practice. We put some cross into the car and the second practice was better but starting spinning the tire coming off the corners as it had the day before. Still 2 tenths off the pace of the leaders we were searching for the cause. We made a couple of adjustments and Amber started pole in her heat race. After the outside car jumped the start on the first attempt, the next attempt was a good start. The 99 (who was in another class) started beating Amber’s back bumper on the next lap. He tried three or 4 time to wreck her but, she not only kept the car under control but then pulled away and won the heat, earning her first pole for 2010.
Knowing the track was cooling we loosened it up for the feature, but it didn’t take but two laps to realize we had taken too much cross out. Amber was up on the wheel in and out of the corners. This turned out to be a very rough race as the 99 wrecked another car and continuously tried to wreck amber also. Again, Amber simply out drove him and finished a strong 3rd in a car that should not have gotten a top 5 finish.
This was a good weekend and a very worthwhile trip. We had a great time and amber brought home two more top fives. So far for 2010 8 starts and 8 top fives. Average number of car per race has been 12 to 15. The wins will come soon.
If Amber gets the sponsorship that she needs for this summer’s racing, she has a very promising summer ahead of her. She is really looking forward to running the Summer Shootout in Charlotte and the Thursday Thunder Series in Atlanta.

Shhhhhh!

There is a woman driving in the Aaron’s 312 Nationwide Series race that is scheduled for Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. But her name is not Danica Patrick.

It’s Chrissy Wallace, who will make her second Nationwide start of the season during her young career. The daughter of veteran driver Mike Wallace is hoping it goes better than her first, which lasted only one lap before she got wrecked out of the series’ season opener in Daytona.

Anyone who knows Alissa Geving knows that she is an overachiever that simply never gives up, even in times where it seems that doing so is to no avail. Last Saturday night such was the case as Geving was faced with adversities from the first green flag of the night in round four of the Golden State Challenge Series. For Geving, the mechanical woes shadowed her return to her hometown track of Petaluma Speedway but once again, the 18-year old resident of Penngrove never gave up.

Practice was going great and the Citizens Independent Bank, River City Stitch, Leos Upper Dells Bar, 2nd Street Depot, Ford Fusion was one of the fastest cars. After the second practice we came in and noticed that the right front wheel had split the bead off the back. We were lucky that the tire didn’t go flat and that the only damage was the wheel. We had made some changes and went out for our qualifying run and I didn’t qualify as well as I had hoped for but I know that next week I will do a better job- I think not driving a car for a year had an impact on my qualifying run. We started 3rd in the heat race and was able to jump to the outside of the leader within a few laps. With 4 laps to go I was able toclear the leader and started to pull away from the field. I drew an 8 for the invert for the feature, so I lined up last row outside.

Coming off of a 2nd place finish just a few weeks ago, Bell’s crew rolled out the #25 owned by Mackena’s late model crew chief, Dave Sciarroni to see what they could do on one of Mackena’s favorite past~time raceways.

In her first hot lap session, Bell posted a 2nd place effort and a 5th place effort of the 27 car field. Lining up to qualify, Bell rose to 4th place on the board and firmly placed herself on the pole of the Trophy Dash.

Buckling back into a Legends car owned by her Late Model crew chief, Dave Sciarroni, Bell headed for Madera Speedway in Madera, CA where she was feeling excited about returning to one of her favorite tracks. “Madera was always fast and a lot of fun last season. I felt really comfortable in the car and Dad and Dave did a great job getting the car just where I wanted it.”
