This is my first blog entry so firstly let me introduce myself. My name is Stefani Robinson and I live in the UK. I am 23 years old and am a Marketing Executive.
I’m Daughter to Andy Robinson 6 x British Pro Mod Champion. We have numerous amounts of other achievements but its safe to say we’re one of the most competitive cars in the MSA British and FIA European Championships.
I have been around cars since I was born, my Mum and Dad took me to my first drag race when I was 4 months old. Since then I have watched my Dad race in Pro Modified in a variety of different cars and have enjoyed every minute of it. I’ve grown up at the track and have enjoyed going year in and year out. Every time the winter comes I’m thinking about the next season. However the best part about it has been spending the time with my family, when we were younger myself and my Brother Luke used to tear up the pits racing around on our bikes and running about with our friends, I see kids doing exactly the same as we used to do now, racing each other pretending to drag racing with plastic bags as parachutes, dreaming about the day they will have the chance to drive on the strip.
My whole family help out on the car, my brother tunes the clutch, my dad obviously drives and knows every job on the car inside out, I help out with smaller jobs, such as packing the parachutes and other maintenance between runs and my mum does a lot of the paperwork side of things, ensuring we’re entered into the right meetings, and looks after us when we’re at the track so really the most important job of all! We have 4 other crew men on the team including my boyfriend Ryan, all of our crew have been friends that Dad has known for years and years and together we’re like a family.
We travel all across Europe racing in 5 different countries.
Recently I myself have taken steps to getting on the track when I attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School. I raced in the Super Gas Pontiac and my personal best was 9.24 at 146mph. It was such a great feeling to actually drive something, I always knew I wanted to drive but I wasn’t ever sure that I would be good enough or calm enough to handle it. I actually surprised myself at how all my nerves lifted once I got strapped in, and after the initial launch I was so eager to get back in I knew that this would be something I’d want to continue to do. Because everyone knows my Dad at the tracks in Europe, and I’ve been around them all my life too so a lot of people know me I didn’t want the added pressure of everyone expecting me to be good at this, I had never done anything like this before so I had no idea what to expect. Going to Gainesville to the school was great in so many ways as not only was I able to learn anonymously but also Frank has so much knowledge to pass on, I knew it would be a great starting point.
Once the school was over I came back a bit deflated as I knew it could be potentially a long time before I was able to get back into the hot seat again. I’ve been having discussions with some people and there are definitely some interesting options, I hope to at least so some testing this year, the first thing is to get my safety gear which is being ordered as we speak. I think the main thing is to take it in my own time, its one thing to be able to control the car and run it down the strip but when it comes to reaction times its definitely something I’m going to need practice on!! For the meantime the first meeting with the Pro Mod is in two weeks, we’re really excited about getting back onto the track, although this meeting is often a bit tricky because the track hasn’t been used by race cars since September last year and the weather is often cold leaving a cold track to tune to. We’ve managed to figure out where a few of our problems were coming from so hopefully we’ll be able to get back to our PB performance! I’ll make sure to keep you all informed of our progress!
