JOLIET, IL (August 28, 2010) – Milka Duno finished 19th out of 29 entries in tonight’s 200-lap Indy 300 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, IL.
In her first practice session on Friday morning her on-track time was seriously reduced due to a mechanical issue which caused her to have only 13 laps in the 60-minute session, but it was enough for her to deliver a best lap time only 7 tenths of a second off the practice’s leader.
The mechanical issue fixed, but with no opportunity for a shake-down, Duno qualified 26th for the start of tonight’s race – with a differential of 8 tenths of a second from the pole sitter’s time.

EDMONTON, Alberta — On the first few laps of the first practice Friday, with fresh tires and almost no other drivers around her, IndyCar racer Milka Duno lost control of her car, smashed into the tire barrier and shredded her rear wing.
It gave fellow drivers more reasons to call for the Venezuelan racer to be expelled for a driving style they say is dangerous.
“She’s obviously not up to speed,” Danica Patrick said before Duno’s crash during practice for Sunday’s Honda Indy Edmonton.
Patrick said the problem is not so much Duno’s speed as the fact she doesn’t follow accepted practice and move over when she’s a lap down to let faster drivers get by.
“I’m not against having some different speeds up there, but she’s not as gracious about her position as maybe somebody else might be,” Patrick said.

In a sport that continues to grow, auto racing also has seen an increase in female drivers. But the sport has yet to see a woman break into the top-tier NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on a regular basis.
While Danica Patrick, perhaps the most well-known of the female drivers, has run in three Nationwide Series this year — at Daytona, Fontana, Calif., and Las Vegas — most women are making their mark in the IndyCar Series and the National Hot Rod Association. That could be about to change. Read More

LOS ANGELES, CA (MAY 24, 2010) – The format for this year’s Indy 500 offered new and unique challenges to the 41 entries vying for a spot in the coveted 33 car starting field. This is the first year in modern history that the qualifying format for the legendary race was scaled back to a single weekend, making the challenges of car set-ups, weather conditions and the luck of the draw all crucial factors.
Duno showed great promise on opening weekend and throughout the week leading up to this past weekend’s qualifying sessions. Weather conditions leading up to qualifying were very favorable, but for the first time since on-track preparations started hot, humid and windy conditions for both Saturday and Sunday would become part of the challenge for Duno and the Dale Coyne Racing team.
Duno drew the 44th spot for Saturday’s session and went out in hotter conditions – but still managed a 222mph+ qualifying time – bettering her successful qualifying time of 221mph for the 2009 race. She would eventually be bumped from the top 24 spots that were available on Saturday but determined to secure one of the final 9 available spots on Sunday. Read More

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – For the first time in the 93-year history of the Indianapolis 500, five females will hit the bricks when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway opens for practice this Saturday.
“To have five women enter to qualify in the Indy 500, I think is pretty cool,” said Sarah Fisher who, at 19-years old, was the youngest female driver to race in the 500. “When I started back in 2000, you know it was just me.”
Fisher will be joined in this year’s qualifying with fellow American driver Danica Patrick, Venezuela’s Milka Duno, Switzerland’s Simona de Silvestro and Ana Beatriz of Brazil. Read More

Contact in Pit Lane Causes Early End
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2010) – IZOD IndyCar driver Milka Duno was having a great run in today’s Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway when a pit lane incident resulted in mechanical issues that ended her day early.
After exiting her pit during a yellow-flag pit stop and entering pit lane, Duno’s #18 CITGO/CANTV Dale Coyne Racing entry was squeezed by the #4 and the #5 car into a double-spin with the #5 car.
Duno would make two more pit stops immediately after the incident to determine why the car was ill-handling after the contact. After inspection by the team the damage was determined to be either in the upright or the gearbox and would end what was looking like a very promising day. Read More

Duno’s Second Race Ends Early with Handling Issues

ST. PETERSBURG, FL (March 29, 2010) – IZOD IndyCar Driver Milka Duno was out early due to handling issues after only seven laps in today’s rescheduled Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The race, originally scheduled for Sunday, March 28, 2010, was postponed due to heavy rains and rescheduled for a start today at 10am EST.
Duno had improved from the first practice to qualifying by over three seconds in lap time – which is one of several goals on her street and road-course learning strategy. Her first four races of this year’s 2010 schedule are on street and road courses that she has not been on previously in an Indy car.
“This weekend was an incredibly challenging and frustrating experience for me,” said Duno. “To start the season with four consecutive races on tracks new to me in an Indy car, compounded by the change in the track conditions here due to the rain yesterday and the track still being wet at the start of the race today, proved difficult to overcome.”
“I know that I’m on a steep learning curve with regard to road and street courses in an Indy car – and I understand that,” added Duno. “I’m competing in this series with drivers that have more time and experience in an Indy car on these types of tracks and in these types of conditions. It’s just going to take me some time. Our intention was to do quite a bit of testing before the start of the season, but our program came together too late to accomplish this. We will be doing this testing – but we’ll now need to fit it in between the races on the schedule.”
