Featured FRN Driver Diary Off Road Rally — 04 October 2011

Welcome to FRN’s Newest Blogger Emme Hall!

Hey everyone! I’m so glad to be blogging for Female Racing News. I currently drive a class 5 unlimited baja bug. We’ve got a dual carburator 2180cc engine with a 4 speed bus transmission. We are looking for another car, so expect some posts about our buying process. Will we go for class 5/1600? A class 12 car? Anything is possible!

I currently live on the east coast and travel back and forth to races in CA, NV, and Mexico. (Sponsorship side note: Virgin Airlines…are you listening?) During the day I keep busy as the Costume Director at Ford’s Theatre. I may be a racer, but I’m still a girl, and my job means I get to go shopping and play dress up. I also have a side gig reviewing new cars for Roadfly TV. I’ve gotten to drive some excellent cars in the past year, including the Tesla Roadster Sport, 2011 Range Rover, 2011 Subaru WRX, and the 2012 Mustang Boss 302. When I can, I try my wheels on the pavement at autocross events with SCCA. I just bring in my daily ride, a stock 2001 MIata, and try not to hit any cones…try being the operative word.

My race schedule this year has been pretty busy. I raced the NORRA Mexican 1000 with my dad. We DNF-ed. I don’t want to talk about it. I also helped Desert Dingo Racing take second at the USA 500, and 1st in a 24 hour endurance race in their class 11 stock VW bug. October 8th is the MORE Powder Puff, where I’ll join ladies from across the country to raise money for Cedars-Sinai Breast Cancer Research Center.

But the Big Race will be in March, 2012. I’ll travel to Morocco with my team mate, MIchele Martineau, to run with the Gazelles in the Rallye Aicha des Gazelles, a 9 day, all female rally with no chase crews, no GPS, and no whining! Teams must navigate using only an old school map and points are awarded for shortest distance, not fastest time. Only 5 other American women have participated in this rally, and I am so honored to be able to join their ranks. I’ll be posting a lot about our journey to Morocco here on FRN.
