Ashlee Sokalski passes away due to injuries after Motocross crash

The family of 19 year-old motocross rider Ashlee Sokalski made the difficult decision last night to pull Ashlee from life support after doctors told them there was nothing further they could do to save her.

Ashlee was competing in her second race at the 29th Annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship in Hurricane Mills, TN when she came down after a jump and was thrown from her motorcycle, which ended up bouncing back and landing on top of her. Read More

SEATTLE – Twenty-two-year-old Kayleigh Perkins hadn’t even been born the last time a woman took an unlimited hydroplane onto the waters of Lake Washington. That was back in 1981, but Perkins is more than ready to get behind the wheel.

“I spent all of this last winter lifting weights to get ready for this,” she said.

With the blessing of pilot Steve David, Perkins was given the chance to take out the famous Oh Boy Oberto hydro for its test run.

The petite Perkins handled the 31-foot-long boat that skims across the water at up to 200 miles an hour.

“It’s really hard, it’s going into the corners really easy, these boats want to turn and you can take it in with a couple fingers but pulling it out takes full body briefing so it was challenging, and I’m excited, I’ve got to do a little more weightlifting to be able to handle a heat in one of those. I’m not quite ready for that yet,” she said. Read More

Prepared for Harder Elements, Needs to Focus on What’s Easy

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 10, 2010) – For the first time since 2004, The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will compete at Darlington Raceway in the Too Tough to Tame 200. Jennifer Jo Cobb has heard all of the intimidating phrases associated with the racetrack. “The Lady in Black,” “Too Tough to Tame” and “Darlington Stripes” have all served warning to the Kansas City, Kan., native. Despite their daunting presence, Cobb isn’t letting them frighten her. Cobb is using them as motivation that she hopes will help her meet the challenge of navigating the 1.366-mile historical track.

Darlington appears to be a venue that will play into Cobb’s No. 10 Driven team’s strengths. Tracks one to two miles in length, like Darlington Raceway, are the team’s sweet spot. In NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition, Cobb’s best finish came at an intermediate track, scoring 14th-place at Texas Motor Speedway this season. Read More

The Chesterfield resident is in critical condition after crashing Thursday during the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

“Ashlee’s a fighter,” her mother, Tanya Burgess, said from Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville Monday morning. “This is the race of her life. You can just hear Ashlee saying, ‘Just give me two more laps, I can do this. Just give me more time.’”

Sokalski was going over a jump during a race Thursday afternoon when the accident happened. Read More

NASCAR is a Bumpy Ride for Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick could get lapped — several times — by the good old boys at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn next weekend.

If she notches a top-15 or even a top-20 finish in Saturday’s Carfax 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, well, she’ll have saved some face.

Patrick, who became the first female driver to win a race in a major closed-circuit event at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan in 2008, made a part-time move to stock cars this season. She is driving for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports and finding the going rough.

The GoDaddy.com girl hasn’t exactly turned heads in NASCAR with her finishes, with a best result of 24th in five Nationwide starts. But she hasn’t hit the panic button, either. Read More

HELP OUT THE FRN CREW..

Due to some unforeseen circumstances the FemaleRacingNews.com Crew is in a bit of a bind… This weekend is the first annual “Drive Like a Woman” event being held at Atlanta Motor Speedway. The event is a private track day for girls both beginner and intermediate to have fun and get seat time.  Owner and creator of FRN Amanda would be attending this event, along with Lieze Truter. This would be Lieze’s first event who is currently without a car of her own. Amanda offered up the use of the FRN 240sx since she would be also attending the event.

As the event grew closer and the build of the FRN 240sx going slowly due to funding they were going to have to use another car. The car Amanda drove previous to the 240sx was a 1986 Toyota Corolla she had shared with her fiancé. After a drift event this past weekend the Corolla is inoperable and unable to make the trip.  So now the heat is on to get the FRN 240sx up and going before this weekend. If you would like to help the FRN Crew get to the event at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend we have set up a ChipIn or email us at info [at] femaleracingnews.com with other offers.  The car currently needs suspension, tires, wheels and a clutch, if you would like to donate any of these items shoot us an email as well.

Thanks in advance for all that help. It’s very much appreciated.

Erika Detota uses Rally Car Races to Educate Youth on Breast Cancer Prevention

We are so excited rally car driver Erika Detota donated her time to influence the lives of her fans at the New England Forest Rally. The press stage prior to the race was set up at the rally for journalists and media related attendants to accompany a driver for a ride on an actual race stage for what is called “shakedown” or practice stage for the drivers to get re acquainted with the conditions. Erika decided that instead of taking press around that she would take Caitlin Riviere on her first rally ride experience, and educate her on how to lower her risk for breast cancer! Read More

HOLLAND — Before Taylor Christenson got her license this summer, she was well on her way to becoming the female driver of the year for Unique Motor Sports.

The 16-year-old, who will be a 10th-grader at Holland Black River, has smashed and bashed her way to the top of the off-road powder puff standings, including a heat victory Friday at the Ottawa County Fair.

“I thought I would be horrible and nobody would know me, but it’s been totally different,” said Christenson, the youngest female driver on the circuit. “I love it all — the adrenaline, hitting people. … It’s a lot of fun doing something that no one else really does. It’s unique.
